I'm looking at buying a machine polisher, but to be honest I know NOTHING about them. Could shed any light on which one to go for.
Also, the paintwork of my car is in very good condition so could I just use say Autoglym polish or Zanio polish fairly regularly or would that damage the paintwork?

Thanks

For a newbie i'd recommend a Meguiars G220..

I'd also recommend you get yourself on to www.detailingworld.com where you'll find a wealth of knowledge and some really friendly and helpful members who could guide you further

The Kestrel DAS-6 is similar to the G220 but less expensive. It seems to be well regarded on Detailing World.

Seconded on the Kestrel DAS-6. Personally I prefer them over the G220's.

Don't forget that you'll need a couple of compounds and pads to go with it aswell. The 3M stuff is pretty decent but slightly pricey (the compounds will last for ages and ages though) The compounds run out between £28 & £39 depending on which stage it's for. And the pads are between £16 & £24.

Or you could try Flexipads pads which are pretty decent and their newly released compounds which are smaller bottles than the 3M stuff but are roughly £6 per bottle. http://www.flexipadshop.com/category1550824.html

Waxes and sealents are pretty much a personal choice but if you're wanting to stick to the Autoglym stuff their HD Wax is worth considering but DONT shell out £40 for it, there are places out there where you can get it way cheaper than that, You should be able to pick it up for around £25 from ebay.

Anyone tried the compounds yet?

Looking at the prices, its pretty much on a par with the 3M products

Not yet, will hopefully give them a whirl sometime this week though along with a couple of other Menzerna ones.

Once I've had a go with them I'll post my thoughts up here. They're worth a punt at £6 a bottle though aren't they?

Was thinking the same, tester kit there for around £25, might be worth a shot for a comparison if nothing else?

What I meant on the price sir was relating to the bottle sizes, it £6 for a 250ml bottle, which works out around the same as 3M ( Around £20 for a kilo of FC+ )
