Was in Rome for a few nights, now in Siena and everyone is wearing a Rolex of some decription.

Seems to be different to the UK way of aspiration or showing off, just as a trendy brand.

Have to say that its nice to see the really simple Oysters on women but I'm putting the Sea Dweller away for now. Luckily I brought the JLC and Glashutte to vary things up a bit.

I was in Positano on the Amalfi coast a couple of years back for a wedding. Most of the beautiful waitresses at the beach front restaraunts were wearing vintage Rolex sports, such as the Red Sub, double Red Sea Dweller even a manual Cosmograph. The tips must be very good!

Or they are mistresses to wealthy men. wink

I've noticed that in Italy... and unless the ladies concerned are on the hefty size, the steel sports Rolexes simply don't look right IMO! They hang them off the wrist like bracelets and are just *too* much, if you see what I mean.

Those Rolexes may be fakes?

One of my more fashionable cousins wears a Omega Speedmaster Pro like it's about to fall off her hand. grumpy

Yeah, OK, I'm jealous. laugh

there are lots of fakes in italy... but i would also say that there are more real rolexs in italy than in the UK.

girls wearing mid sized or sports rolexs loose is the way its been done for some time over there.

im i correct in assuming the english here are questioning italian girls sense of 'style'? (are you crazy???) wink

I'd be as bold as too say these were all kosher.

The places we've been to have been quite swanky and at a glance they looked the real deal (not that I'm an expert but do know a bit).

Seems unlikely unless people tip stupidly well.

Italian women have style and won't hesitate to wear a mens watch, they look great as well. Nothing sexier than a woman wearing a speedy...never seen one though!

I believe the italians started the craze of women wearing large watches or rather breil did i think...

I noticed several Brietling, Rolex and a Hublot watches hanging off wrists within 100m walking along the canals of Venice. Me? I was sporting my trusty Citizen hehe

My wife wears her Rolex Oyster loose for a couple of reasons....(a) if it's too tight it will mark her wrist and (b) wearing it loose stops the bracelet getting 'sweaty' or 'smelly'.
Must admit I didn't notice the rolexes on the waitresses' wrists in Positano...... wasn't looking at their wrists !

I fly Alitalia a lot, Amsterdam - Milan & Rome - Tripoli. Always plenty of pax wearing interesting watches. Not many Panerai but plenty of other top-end stuff.
