Door Mirror fault

My O/S electric door mirror has suddenly decided to act oddly. It works fine when altering the vertical movement but seems to be trying to do horizontal and vertical movement at the same time if I try to adjust left or right. I don't think the switch is faulty as the N/S mirror works fine. Before I start taking things apart has anyone else had this happen?

The car is a 1992 pre-cat 4.3 Griff and I'm pretty sure it has a mirror control box as there is a black box which keeps falling down under the dash near the steering column.

The pre-cat cars don't have a mirror control box, the controls are all in the drivers door.
There is a relay in there and of course the change over switch and joystick.

There may be a wiring diagram in the bible.

Maybe the motor in the mirror is faulty?

Oh, I thought the black box was a control box. It is about the size of a cigarette packet and has a velcro pad on the back. I had understood that the pre-cats had a control box after May 1992, I wonder what it is for?

I did suspect the motors but didn't want to take the mirror unit part util I understood the circuit a bit more.

I've finally now got to the bottom of this. It's because someone has replaced the drivers door mirror glass and placed it too far to the right, as a result it fouls the mirror housing.

I can't see how to get the mirror glass out, I have fished around with the mirror as far back as possible but can't find a tag to flip? There is a small bit sticking out below the mirror glass but it won't move right or left. Any ideas?

It will move left or right, they can be tight.

Remember to tape your mirror surround first to protect the paint.

The hard part then is repositioning the holder to the mirror to centralise it....

Couldn't budge it, the tag was only a couple of mm long and couldn't get a very thick implement in the gap.

Do I need to be pretty brutal? I did tape it up with masking tape.

I just use a flat blade screwdriver to flick the tab(oo errr)

Oh lawks sounds like I have a prob, it was a screwdriver I was using and nothing moved. Hmmmm I can see the mirror breaking if I'm not careful.
