My son is off to Le Mans on Tuesday, entered the Pistonheads AM pits comp and all that ... I stay in UK and work 
... my fav thread this time of year is the "my car stickered-up" one, if you haven't guessed I have withdrawl feelings ... last year's CLASSIC was WONDERFUL, so I am going to focus on July 2010 and the sound of Griffith rumbling onto the ferry!
... my fav thread this time of year is the "my car stickered-up" one, if you haven't guessed I have withdrawl feelings ... last year's CLASSIC was WONDERFUL, so I am going to focus on July 2010 and the sound of Griffith rumbling onto the ferry!I think long term planning needs to start now , as a LM Classic virgin I need all the help I can get , I want to team up with some other guys with similar cars and need to know where the best place is to stay etc etc, I hear its a lot less frantic than the normal 24hrs so close to the circuit is a lot more desirable ?
I can't say that I have spent much time looking at all the threads, but I do rememeber last year a strong theme of "the June 24 diesel thingy" is for louts and more of a drunken party (not that I am decrying an occasional drunken party 
)
The Classic is for those who have a really cultured appreciation of fine sports racing cars (and a few drinks). Can you compare those diesels going round n round ... with 7pm at the Classic when the 917s, GT40s, Ferrari P4s, Lola T70, Alfa T33s and a whole lot more rumble out of their paddock? And that's just ONE of the many highlights!

I did the Nurburgring 24 and the LM Classic last year and loved both.
The Classic was great and a lot more laid back than regular LM. I was staying at Tetre Rouge and couldnt work out what was going on when I got up for a pi$$ about half three one morning and it was quiet everywhere. No fireworks or crazy Dutch pumping out thumpin' techno!
The racing was great though. Watching (and listening!) to the GT40's nailing it onto the Mulsanne at 4 in the morning was brilliant.
I was desparate to go to LM this year but starting to feel a bit better about not having gone following all the reports of non stop rain.
Johnzo if you need fix before next years LM Classic give the Silverstone Classic next month a try. Not been before (at least not since its previous incarnation as the Coys Classic Festival) but supposed to be really good. Seems to be quite a big PH contingent (including me) camping at Whittlebury Hall which adjoins the circuit.

Ditto all of the above feelings. First time in 5 yrs I have not gone to the main race and pretty sad to say the least. Our merry band of 20+ chaps and 15+ cars just seemed to be too impacted by apathy/credit crunch/familiarity with the norm this time around. Have therefore sent out my 1st organising e-mail for the 2010 Classic as of yesterday 
I'll be dragging the Vette down to LM for the 24hr and the Classic. Had a bit of a problem at last years Classic with the u-joints collapsing on the half shaft. Missed the 24hr this year due to an op and struggling to come to terms with only hearing the Corvettes through the TV.
As for the Classic, just Google it and you'll find all the details you need. Tickets are normally available online, I got Karting Nord camping and grandstand tickets no trouble.
We got up at about 4:30am last year and wandered over to the Karting pits to watch the sun rise just as the Plateau-6 cars roared into life. Simply wonderful!

We persuaded the campsite (lebounty) minbus to take us to the end of the mulsanne at 0400 on the sunday morning - seeing the plateau 5 and 6 cars braking hard and then accelerating off into the distance was memorable 
There was a grand total of about 6 (six) people and 1 car in the car park - it was like
town! bet its not like that this Sunday....
(if you do this next year remember to take coat/hat/gloves as the temp was about 2 degrees as the sun rose!)
Seeing if funds will allow me to go next year, if so will take the old girl again and see if there's anymore Tigers to play with on the way back

DAVEY ... U must have got up for a pi$$ in one of those small gaps between races. Of course all those mid-70s prototypes with V12s and V8s sounded oh-so-wonderful through the night, but I have to say (and I challenge anyone who was there not to agree) the sound that stood out was ... a 2-stroke SAAB! I got a couple of hours sleep in the tent RIGHT AT THE TRACKSIDE at Maison Blanche, but that thing could be heard coming out of Mulsanne, and down into Indianapolis at 78million rpm (at least!).The Classic was great and a lot more laid back than regular LM. I was a regular COYS festival weekender, some really happy memories with the old TVR S3, but not been since it went down, but now back on the up, so it is on my calendar for July this year. Not booked in any shape or form, and I hoped to get my son to join the party, but for some strange reason he's going to use the tickets that he's bought for himself and girlfriend for U2 in Dublin. He is at Le Mans right now tho!

Oh yes, I was well wrapped up, still had a good shiver going on, but worth it seeing the big block Corvettes thunder around. That was my plan for this years 24hr, early to bed, early up and sunrise at Mulsanne. Oh well.VETTE, did I see your mean machine last year parked outside the museum? This maybe a sort of nurdish question, but is there any car that bridges the years with appearances at the Classic AND the contemporary Le Mans? OK, maybe a few model revamps on the way, but the DNA remains all the way through...

It couldn't have been my car. I drove into Karting Nord on Thursday and it left on a flat bed Friday. I think we did go passed the museum enroute to the DAM72 garage but I was being hauled on the flat bed.As for your question.......Corvette is one such marque, 1968 L88 - 2009 LS7.R
