hi,

anyone seen or heard of these?

they basically convert a rover metro/100 in to a trackday car

seems like good fun for someone not too mechanically minded?

i think id rather spend that kind of money on a better car imo, would have to be RWD aswell! to me thats essential for a track toy. im sure these are great fun but for the money.........

Don't underestimate the Rover 100 as a stater track day car. OK if you're intending driving it straight into a wall then you might be better off buying something bigger (heavier), but I suspect a Saxo or 106 Rallye wouldn't fare much better if you want a small hatchback. I've done hundreds of trackdays and never seen anyone go head-on into the barriers anyway. And most Talon 100s have roll cages.

I know a few people with them and they are very quick with superb handling. Maybe not as pure as a 7 but as quick as most saloon based trackday cars with less than 250bhp.

Talon are a knowledgeable bunch and have done lots of these conversions, so the mods are well sorted and engineered.

Reyland also did a VVC Rover 100 and I saw that monster an Evo VIII at Bedford - and the Evo driver WAS trying.

I agree. great fun little cars. Its great fun being the 'underdog' as well if that makes sense.

I used to love driving the Reyland one at Trackdays. A Little hooligan mobile...

Believe it or not. That little Metro could and did push a standard R33 GTR Vspec around Castle Combe as well!

and the R33 driver WAS trying... because it was me! and I know Combe VERY well!

Skyline on road rubber and the Metro always ran full slicks though to be fair.... so huge advantage there.

Great cars. A bit leftfield. I'm not sure how much I'd want to spend on a Metro though!

Also have to say I found the company a bit odd to deal with when I approached them looking to buy a GTM a few years ago.

I'd have to start with a different base car - a 205 GTi or Phase 1 Clio 16v for starters. Both have better balance and power as standard before you then chuck £3k+ at them.

As an aside, I can never take anyone, either company or individual, seriously if they utter the immortal phrase "handles as if on rails". No it doesn't, not at all.

Do you really want a car that's been modified by someone with so little technical knowledge that that's the best they can come up with to describe desireable handling characteristics?

I have had nothing but great service from Talon.

They originally built my Libra.

The 100r is pretty awesome. Now if you did an L in poo brown that would be the perfect sleeper.

i really really cannot see the appeal of these for that kinda money!

I can see the appeal. Although I suspect they made more financial sense a few years back when other cars cost more such as a DC2 ITR.

I mean what do they weigh?? 700-800kg tops? The VVC motor is still a good engine. And such a car as this does offer every day usability, 4 seats and a roof. So good handling, breaking and a superb power to weight ratio.

On a purley a like for like basis what else in the same performance league could you buy for your money? I know if you can mod a car yourself you could build something more. But if that's the case you wouldn't be looking at an off the shelf solutions.

it is a B16a vtec and cost about £2k to build, not by Talon tho, and is still putting a big grin on the face of the current owner on many a trackday as it did mine :-)

is there a company that does such swaps? I quite like the idea of it but frankly have no where to do it.

sorry but mine was privately built by a very knowledgable guy that builds as a hobby. He also built a B18/golf, B18/mini and a S2000/ BMW - there are lots of vtec mini builders around. You might find their forum by using vtec mini in a google search.

I now have a DC2 but can honestly say the metro was brilliant fun especially if you fancy being a bit different :-)

I know Talon very well as a supplier and customer. I drove their demonstator around Brunters and was well impressed. It got loads of attention due to its surprising speed and handling.

I run a stripped out non VVC 1.8 Metro Gti as my run around/van/track car and it is great. 135bhp and 770kg. Elise performance for £2K.

If only. I contacted Talon recently, albeit by email. Maybe it was an off day but they didn't seem all that welcoming in email at least.

They also said that it'd cost £6500 for a Talon 100 VVC with LSD and big brake kit. Which I think is quite a lot. £4k or under and I'd have been very interested.
