My boiler has been making an annoying squeaking sound for a few weeks now, even when it's not firing. It also sounds like something's going on even when there's no demand for hot water/heating and it's outside the times it should be on...it's not firing up at these times, but is definitely active doing, errr, something (you can tell I know a lot about this stuff).

Anyone have any ideas a to what it might actually be doing, and what could be squeaking (fan maybe...)?
Really annoying as the boiler is in a cupboard in my lounge...

Sounds like it could be your fan.

The oils dry up over time and this normally signals that the things on its way out.

If you dont know what you're doing / looking at, get someone in to check and replace, you dont want to play about with gas.

Not a big job and 9 times out of 10, squeaks and squeals come from the fans. Part approx. £30 plus labour.

Thanks Cinque - very useful!
I have no intention of trying to fix it myself, but is good to have an idea of what it could be while I wait to get a plumber out.
Hope it is just the fan - I was worrying it might be time for a new boiler, as last time they descaled it they said they were on the verge of giving up, so whenever it starts behaving differently I start worrying it might be on its last legs...
