London Buffet Pig request.
Discussion
My mother in law is a major buffet snuffler. She loves the things. No fine dining for her. For her 75th birthday we are sending her for a week to London. She loves general buffets, Chinese buffets and that sort of thing. We have booked her into a hotel in Grosvenor Square, (buffet breakfast included),but she will want to find some kind of general purpose industrial buffets that she can graze in. So, no Fat Duck or Gordon Ramsay.....
Any ideas???...(she will not do Indian, but Italian, Chinese,Korean or general western would be fine...
I only get to London the odd time, though I lived there years ago.

plenty of fabulous restaurants to 'taster menus' how about that as a compromise?
that way she can eat in a proper restaurant and still stiff her face?
Well, by her own definition she would like large quantities of cheap food, (She has the thin gene so does not waddle into the place, but she has a capacity for gristle, chicken feet, lamb shops or any meat on the bone). No fish, salads,or veggies. that way she can eat in a proper restaurant and still stiff her face?
Massive ex smoker, never exercised, and not a single health problem. If I could clone the woman's genes I would be rich.
The tip on Goodge Street/Tottenham Court Road is helpful..thks
. We are sending her over on the QM2 from NY, so she might just be buffeted out, but I would not bet on it.RDMcG said:

the chinese buffets are pretty appalling...
however, what about dim sum from a trolley? you just pick off what you like. I'm pretty sure some of the chinatown dimsum places still run that way.
to be honest, if you just take her to a decent Chinese resaurant you can order enough to feed an army and still happily walk away with change from £30 per person.
London Hong Kong right next to Heathrow is very good, as is Phoenix Palance in Baker St...Oriental City food court would have been right up her street but it closed last year, more's the pity.

oh wait, also, there is an Eat As Much As You Can sushi place just south of Tottenham Court Road...I think its £25.
Dicing with death, surely? Still, could successfully ween her off 'buffet snuffling'...Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
