Well 3 weeks after my joy of getting an 09 plate for my car due to a DVLA error and driving round with big happy smile I received a letter on friday from the DVLA.

They stated they had made a mistake and had reregistered the vehicle as a K plate. Could I please return the incorrect tax disc in the SAE and sorry for any incovenience. S*d the inconvenience what about the cost. Ive had to buy new plates and adehsive fixings and there will probably be an admin fee from the insurance due to their incompetence. furious

Ignore the letters, thats what i would do. As far as you are concerned, it is on an 09 plate as you were given originally and thats final. Or agree to it, BUT state in a letter you want compensation FIRST for the cost of swapping everything back, including as you say the plates ect. Just make it a bit awkward for them and maybe they will relent. Unless of course their reasoning is completely justified and just accept there was a gigantic mess up. Still get compensation though. I do not honestly think though that a K plate will make your car worth any less or desireable than an 09.

There was a slight mix up which meant I had to go and pick the paperwork up, so got an early finish today and drove over to Notts to pick up the paperwork. Got into the car to come home after collecting paperwork and checked the certificate and tax disc matched as someone else had a set that didnt. Imagine my surprise when in the reg no where Im expecting to see K*** *** i see **09 ***. Got a brand new reg ]

I got the above from a different topic. Sorry but you knew the day you got the car registered that it should have been a K plate. You could have said something at the time and saved yourself all this hassle. You have tried to profit from someone elses mistake which you knew about and have now been found out Sorry mate I have no sympathy for you.

to thescamper: it is surely not my job to second guess the decisions the DVLA make. I wasnt trying to profit as I wasnt trying to make anything from the fact they had made a mistake I was just happy that they had. Besides I had already left the building and i wasnt going to queue for anothe 45 mins to query it. Also are you telling me you wouldnt have done the same. I suppose you would have gone straight back in and queried it

To Furyblade Lee: Unfortunately the V5 arrived last night with the K plate on it so if I want to drive the car Legally i have to put K plates on it. As it happens I already have the plates and put them on last night.

As has been said Andy, I would still ask them to foot the bill to change the plates - it has to be worth asking the question.
