Is there a cost effective method of boosting the bellow of my E39 that does not involve cutting?

I looked at removing the resonator/ X pipe, but thats either a £400 pipe from Jetex, or a back street garage knock up job which is not attractive.

Terrifed of buying a £1100 exhaust and then not liking the noise and or looking like a Barry Boy. Can Anyone advise on a more cost effective system that is louder, circa RS4 levels, but not overwhelming, as I use the vehicle for work.

Have a look on YouTube, there are videos of cars fitted with nearly all the aftermarket exhausts, which will give you an idea of how they sound, and how they look on the car.

In some cases it's only the back boxes which are replaced, which means the cost isn't too frightning.

Thanks Dave, the one I like is the switchable version but it doesnt say who makes it. That way dependent on mood I can hooon or potter at the flick of a switch.

Have you thought about going to an exhaust shop? They will custom make you one for about £400 and you can tailor the noise.

Otherwise you are looking at over a grand for a good one. Hayward + Scott are the cheapest at around £650 but they are loud, very loud. Far too much for me.

Are you sure? The m5 exhaust is one part, not seperate boxes and pipes like normal.

I take that back. Looks like it's multi-part but easier to remove as one bit?

Probably best just to ignore my posts wink
