F1 (car) models

following on from teh iconic liveries thread, i now want some little models of the classic F1 cars like the brabham BT50, ferrari 312, Mclaren MP4/4, Lotus 72D / 78.

i looked at tamiya kits as they do 1/20 scale which i think would be just nice, but i would have to buy a load of paint to make them decent and they don't have all that many cars, so i'm thinking about ready made models, around £15-20 each.

any ideas on where (brands / shops) to look?

You won't get any F1 models for that budget these days. All the diecast ones start at around the £25 mark now for 1:43 scale (100mm in length) with the 1:18 scale (250mm in length) costing upwards of £40-50 each.

ok thanks - i'll go looking for some 1:18 models then, will just have to build my collection a bit more slowly than originally planned!

The biggest choice is in 1/43

You may find some within your budget from various retialers at shows like Autosport and goodwood. The choice will only be what they have but I've found some really good stuff in the past. Goodwood especially is very good for this sort of thing.

I hope now I've said that, that this year is as good! It certainly always has been in the past.
