Advance / Help for a Le Mans Virgin (don't laugh)

Right, due to a change of circumstances, The Le mans weekend has become free in the house diary - so, the Monday before the event, I thought - lets try and get to le mans !!
Never been before - and leaving it late I know, but I just wanted to experience it with my son before he gets to old to want to go away with his old man !!
So - I can get a ferry crossing, already checked that out - What else is needed, Some general Admission tickets are available, Don't care about sitting in a granstand - but these will get us in to see the action right ? And finally somewhere to camp ... There seems like loads of places - so someone please help me out here, don't want to be miles away and driving, we can rough it - just want somewhere to park the car, stick up a tent and dive into the action !!!

Hi, We usually camp offsite at a camping municipal (In a village a few kms south called Roeze sur Sarthe)its a nice place to stay and always has space, I have their email contact if you want it)
This year we have decided to brave in-track camping at Beausejour (might be a mistake looking at Lowdrags pics). I did not buy the camping tickets until Friday just gone and there was availability, I think you can also buy them down there for this site, although im sure some other members will know for sure.

2 gen tickets plus a karting nord camping pass. we always stay there so i can tell you its ok.

GA tickets will get you to most places around the track that you'll want to visit day or night. There are pleanty of campsites but getting a ticket at this late stage may proove tricky. A parking pass may be your best chance as you usualy get enough space to pitch a small tent with your car.
Well worth the trip and i'm sure your lads will love the opintunity to experience one of the worlds best sporting events

Unlike Homer I would not suggest getting a parking space and erecting a tent on that space..car spaces are OK for a car but are far too small for a tent as well, and this pisses off neighbours very easily who cannot get on to their alloted space easily. Maybe there might be a free space nearby though that you could use.

If it's your first trip you should consider where you are going to camp. If you camp in or immediately outside the circuit you will not get any sleep (unless you get really wrecked (then you may regret it in the morning) due to the obvious noise. Like the previous post said, not a good idea to try and cam in the car park. Personally I would go to the municiple site at Ecommoy, its about 5 miles south of the circuit. It has showers etc and should have spaces. It will also be much cheaper than circuit campsite prices.

NeilH, I'd "bite his hand off" for those, Maison Blanche is one of the better campsites, close to the action and passable facilities. They're all okay apart from the fields that are "Beau"sejour.. We were in the quagmire a couple of years ago and vowed _never_ to go back there ever again. Admittedly the weather was atrocious, loads of rain and high winds. Plus the fact the Danes had taken over the nearest field and the middle one was so bad the ACO simply cordoned it off. It was a long muddy trek to the circuit and back to the campsite.
