It's going to be a long 21 months...
Discussion
Hi all, I am new to the watches forum, so please be kind, and apologies in advance for the long post.
I have a big birthday coming up in a couple of years and the OH was asking what I’d like as a present, a bit early in the day perhaps, but she said she wants to save up for something special - she’s thoughtful like that…
Now this is a hard question to answer as I don’t really want for much in life, and those things I do want I just go out and buy myself, but I was given a watch for my 21st (a Gucci – I know not at all impressive to the aficionados in here, but I love it dearly and am still wearing it today some 17 years later) so another watch seemed like a good idea.
Anyway, I have been looking at watches for the past few weeks, and reading a bit on here and I am getting hooked, but whilst I have my likes and dislikes, the likes category is big and varied with no real theme as such…
I really like the IWC Portuguese (Specifically this Ref: IW371415) but it’s waaaay too much money for the OH to afford, plus I think I need something that I won’t be frightened of wearing every day, so I have settled on an Omega Planet Ocean 42mm with the orange bezel. Couldn’t be more different I know, but there you have it, no logic to it.
Today I made the mistake of trying one on… How on earth am I going to wait 21 months? I was fingering the debit card there and then, but the OH would not be impressed if I brought one home removing pretty much the only idea of a present I could come up with…
I am considering purchasing a stop-gap watch for a couple of hundred to divert my attention away from the expensive stuff until my birthday and would be interested in your thoughts on this one… Something on the lines of a Seiko divers watch, that is automatic, feels heavy on the wrist and is nice to look at. Is the ~feel~ of these sorts of watches such that it won’t help? Am I going to feel like this for the rest of my life knowing that there are so many watches out there that I want to have on my wrist?
Also suggestions for a stop-gap purchase would be gratefully received, an Orange Monster perhaps, seems to be a popular choice, but impossible to try on before you buy in this country...

Check out Werners Flying Watches (search on the thread here), and mention you are a Pistonheader for a potential discount.
For under £100, you will get yourself an automatic divers watch (or just about anything else) - they are not amazing, but not cristmas cracker quality either. I have one in my collection - it's still keeping excellent time, and is rolled out occasionally... And I'm still looking there for others...

Oooh there are some nice looking watches on that web site... They seem to be very inexpensive, I guess by the positive comments on the other thread that they feel nice too, makes you wonder how they do it?For under £100, you will get yourself an automatic divers watch (or just about anything else) - they are not amazing, but not cristmas cracker quality either. OP: if you want something big'n'chunky, have a look at an Orsa Monstrum:

$295, which is £184 at today's exchange rate.

Not a lot of info on the site, though.
Might have to bookmark that for a later date

It'd look better with the bezel moved one, maybe two, clicks to the left.
