Sunday night at Silverstone

Having never been to Silverstone for the GP before I was wondering what it is like post race on the Sunday evening. I am camping at Whittlebury Hall. Is there still catering/bars open or should I make sure I keep something in the coolbox to stick on a disposable barbie?

The local bars and places will still be open and serving on Sunday night to cater for the sensible ones who don't want to get stuck in 4 hour jam out of the Silverstone area after the race.

there is a few bars / indians in towcester 5 mins down the road.

There's no such thing as 5 minutes down the road after the race It'll take you 1 hour to do 1 mile if your lucky

I'd take food with you then you don't have to worry about trying to get out. The roads are often a mess and it only takes an accident to snarl things up.

Our Sunday night meal is usually "camping stew", tins of stewing steak, tinned potatoes and tinned peas/carrots. Bung it all on a stove and heat it through.

We're there from Thursday marshalling and even with our fridge it's a bit of a struggle to keep fresh food for the Sunday night.

My other "non fridge" staple is the tins of confit de canard that you can buy in France or in posher shops, they don't have to be chilled and just need to be heated through as well. Bit posher than camping stew!

All the catering at Whittlebury will still be open- there's a fair bit of choice these days, from hog roast in the beer tent to a la carte in the restuarant.

We usually nip over every morning for breakfast- its pretty damn good- and the toilets there are ace too

We're at Whittlebury too, and will be relying on the hog roast for our evening meal!

Will you be sticking around at the circuit for the post-race party? Seems a civil way to avoid the traffic jams!!

I usualy go to the after party if the weathers not too stty. It makes for a good way to avoid the worst of the jams. I only live about 1 hr away from Silverstone so it's better for me to wait around.

Thanks for all the info. I had to knock the annual LM24 trip on the head in order to be able to do the GP and can't wait.

They do a nice BBQ/grill as well and the portaloos in the carpark are dead posh n all
