I am looking at buying a Tuscan, it would greatly help me narrow the search down if I knew exaclty what the right specification to buy is, and what to avoid. I know about some of the pitfalls but this would be a second car.
The car I have in mind is a 2001 Y reg Tuscan 4.0 speed 6, what spec is considered a must and the colour I like is Spectraflash silver, is this a good colour to have for re-sale, would aircon be standard or not, any advice is much appreciated.

Hello TIME.

Have a little search on this forum as there is a wealth of information for first time buyers.

ALternatively, there should be an FAQ.

Singh

That's the one I like, just need to know a bit more about them first to ensure it's the right spec.
Thanks

Thanks for everyone's advice, just had a check done on the registration of the car I really liked, before arranging to view it !
Got the registration number from classifieds, guess what, the car is classed as a "TOTAL LOSS" according to the company I checked it with, nice to know that people don't bother to advertise this fact to poor unsuspecting buyers, not nice that!
My advice is to always HPI it first.

TIME,

That is really bad news, good job you got it checked out I suppose there are circumstances under which some may not bother.
Just goes to show don't let your heart rule your head at least until after you have bought the car

I hope that anyone looking at the car in question does a HPI check on it, or is made aware of it's history before they buy it, it was advertised in the well known midlands used car magazine also. It has been removed from the classifieds now! Wonder why ?

I will keep looking, but the cheap cars seem to all have adverse history, I do like the swordfish and the chameleon colour, I am in no hurry so to buy so the right one will come along.

Just seen three TVR's going towards Malvern, a white wedge and two Chimaera's one with a light conversion, very nice.

hmmm, if on the classifieds submission page there was an option box indicating whether the car was on the Hpi register (Class D/C/No/Unknown) would that benefit PH members who purchase cars off PH?
As far as I know advertisers have to give the correct information so at the very worst you'd get 'unknown' for dodgy cars. If however, the car was a 1st owner car or the current owner had it Hpi'd before they bought it they could categorically say that it wasn't on the register and it would make the car more attractive to a potential purchaser.
Just a thought?

TIME I was offered a crash damaged repaired Tuscan for 18k from a very honest seller (it wasn't on the register). As has been said before, such cars aren't necessarily bad, just should not command the same price as a non damaged car. It's a sad state of affairs when people try to sell cars like that (especially on a TVR enthusiasts site like this one) without declaring their knowledge of the history of the car.
Best of luck with your search.

OK:

1) Singh: Seen this? - link to Pistonheads classifieds Tuscan in Spectraflare

2) Time: That's the one I like

3) Time: Got the registration number from classifieds, guess what, the car is classed as a "TOTAL LOSS" according to the company I checked it with

4) Cactous: Damn, I would buy that now if I had the money!!

I think the suggestion to put 2+2 together involved you reconsidering your statement (4) based on (3) considering (1) and (2) .
