I have a 1999 XJr and would appreciate any light being shed on my problem. I get in the car and switch on, most times it will then start but occasionally the rev counter blips (the engine has not fired) and nothing happens when i turn the key. The fault display then cycles through all the codes from brake fluid low etc. If I leave the car for a few minutes it often starts. Recently it became much worse, and would not start at all, I spoke to a jag service chap who suggested it may be the battery. This appeared to be born out as after charging the battery it was OK. however the battery was not holding charge so I changed it. All was well for a few days but it has started doing it again. Battery voltage at rest is 12.9 volts.

Any ideas please guys.

Try the main battery lead where it is linked at the bulkhead , make sure it is sound, engine earths are good . Could be fuse board playing up, but sounds like a battery lead problem.
Hope this helps.
