Thought I might put aside my Luddite ways and try getting this new fangled 'Sky TV' I've heard about. Apparently you can do this all online and have no need to speak to a human being...

However, being the random and annoying old sod that I am I'd prefer to talk to someone (I mean, how many different deals and types of box does one need?? FFS...). I go to their website, there's a nice button marked 'Get Sky'.

"Well blow me", I thought. "That be just what I was after. There's even a phone number... This is going well".

Sigh... How wrong I was. I call the number for new sales and, after telling me it's easier to get TV 'the way it should be' (I think I'll be the judge of that, thanks very much) the automated telephone thingemy offers me two choices - one for current customers and one for previous customers.

Perplexed, I was, for I'm neither, surely? I wait in vain for the aforepromised 'new customers' option, but all I get is a telling off from the machine (can't believe I've been reprimanded by an answering machine!) and then it offers me the same two choices.

I wait.

I then get warned that they might record my phone call. Hmm, perhaps I'm getting closer to a human here, somehow.

Nope.

They want my phone number. I'll give it to a human, if I have to, but this machine is still assuming I have Sky! I don't, and I'm beginning to think I don't want it!

After they go through some random recording about having permission to speak about the account I hang up. fk it, I'm staying with the phonograph.... bds.

If you're struggling with something as simple as ordering Sky, then perhaps that's for the best.
