Sub in cubby hole

I made an enclosure which fits in to the cubby hole, but i cant remember the measurements. It was also a funny shape as well, but still managed to get the internal volume needed for my JL 10 inch sub.

The trim matches the trim on the doors and on the top dash.

I've done this to mine, used some 5mm polysterene craft board stuff, got it from office world, made the basic shape, trim, try, trim, try etc.
Then transfered that pattern to the MDF, one of the hardest bits was getting the angle right where it meets the transmission tunnel and also where it meets the seats...The whole thing took ages..but however I'm very pleased with the outcome, and when I get my arse into gear to trim it all, it'll look fantastic.
If you want, when I pull it all out to stick the trim on, I'll draw round it and send you the outline, however that won't be for a couple of weeks yet.
Are you using a 10" sub, if so you'll have to get the hole in the right place cos if you mount it too low, it wont fit, as I found out on my second bit of MDF!!!
On the speaker topic, you may find that you'll get much better sound quality if you disconnect the rear speakers, cos being 4" they aren't man enough for the job, and as they're virtually right next to your ears, the sound tends to get dragged back there, and it sounds awful.
I've got some 6.25" Kenwoods in the front, with seperate tweeters above, and with the sub in the back it sounds awesome!!

Did try running the rears from the head unit, for a bit of "rear fill", however sounds much better with em off IMO, have you tryed it? You maybe surprised
As for front components, I'm really happy with the Kenwoods, sound great and not expensive, about £80 for the pair, If you've got the cash Focals are the daddy

I've not tried turning the rears off. I shall try.
Regarding the Focals. These were recommended from another thread about 8 months ago, so i'll have to take a look. At the same time , i'll look at some kenwoods as well.
Yep, it's gonna be the focals - pretty much the best quality speakers - not cheap though. I'm using a 5 channel Alpine, bridging two channels for the fronts - 250w, with the sub channel running at 370w. Not really a bass fiend, but shuld provide the oomph I need. Looking at otehr installs of 10" subs, I think I might go for 8"
With the sub in the car, as opposed to being in the boot, you won't need to drive it as hard, mine up loud is like Mike Tyson punching you in the kidneys.

How come you're bridging your front channels? Surely they need seperate channels, and the sub is bridged.

If you want a good deal buy your Focals or even a set of Infinity perfects from the US as you'll pay about a third of the price for them around £125. I've just bought and installed 6.5" Cerwin Vega components and they sound awesome. 90 watts RMS so they can take plenty. £100 delivered.
I went for something with a good mid base driver which brings some warmth up front.

I'm prepared to take the sub-box out and measure its external dimensions for you - I built mine trial and error (lots of templates, lots of mdf) but am now really pleased with the result. Just need to get it trimmed properly now.

me too. A template and step-by-step instructions for the stupid would be useful.
I'm also after some advice on how to install front door speakers in a car that hasn't got any. I can work out how to cut a hole, but what about all that wiring rubbish?
