I was asked by a local farmer if I would give his car a quick going over for a charity drive he was running.
He said to me he bought this car when it was 6 months old and has been sat in his barn for the last 10 years. When he told me what car it was I got quite excited for I always wanted one when I was younger and even now would be nice.
He also informed me that this car was the second lowest mileage RS500 in the UK, truly an amazing find and totally original condition , even the tyres were original except the side walls were perishing and ready for replacement.

Engine bay looking pretty dusty

To prevent mice and rats eating their way through the car the farmer even put rat poison under the bonnet.

There was lots more poison in the boot and interior it bloody smelled awful and made me feel sick..lol

Plenty of swirls

The PDG readings were considerably lower than a modern clearcoat finish but still plenty to give it a good buffing.

After a quick vac and wipe down the interior was like factory finish.

Recaro seats like new

Even the spare had never been used and like new

This stereo set up brings back memories all in perfect working order

Best of all check this out for low mileage WOW

Thanks for sharing the pic/story.

Very, very interesting to see. smile

I'm not sure where he gets the "2nd lowest mileage" thing from though? Any idea who told him that?

Looks like you've done a great job on it too btw. smile

Lovely looking car and while not wanting to poke holes it looks like the wrong front bumper to me?? the air ducts dont look big enough and also 500's had grills where the front fogs are.
Happy to be corrected if im wrong smile

You're not wrong Neil wink

I wasn't going to mention it as it might have looked like I was purposely trying to fault the car.

From the pic, the front splitter doesn't look right either but that could be the shot.

Well done that man for bringing her back to her former glory, the bumper looks right to me it has the recess under the front grill to let more air in, from new Ford put the foglights in a box in the boot incase you wanted to fit them later.

why would someone spend good money to buy a 6 month old car and fill it with rat poison and stick in it a barn?

RS500's Came Fitted With Grill's But Were Supplied With The Fogs In The Glovebox. And If You Look Under The Front Rad. Grille There Is A Dropped Part. The Std. Cossie Bumper Just Ran Straight. Not Trying To Be Annoying. How's That For Geeky! Joe

hi the rs 500 doe's have the correct front bumper the front slot under the number plate is 6 inch longer then standard they dip in the middle under the front grill, they where fitted with grills but ford also surplyed the fog lights in case owners wanted to change the grills, also rs 500's had the lower bib on the bottom of the bumper which extends up the wheel arches
