So I've cleared all the crap out of the garage and now to paint it. So what is the best way to prepare and paint the walls (concrete and brick) masonry paint? what to wash down with? The roof appears to be corrugated asbestos emulsion? matt or silk? or gloss? primer etc? Now the biggie the floor which is very grimy and oily! What is the best way clean and prepare it? Also it appears to have a couple of plastic bottles melted/welded to any idea how to shift these too? Thanks guys.

If I recall correctly asbestos is probably best off sealed with an oil based paint. I'm not an asbestos expert though.

Hoping to paint my garage this summer, a mate of mine has put an epoxy floor down in his and it looks good. Plus it keeps the dust down.

Go buy a handheld sprayer, it will save a huge amount of time. I just used some exterior paint, Dulux I think for the walls. Spray it on then go over with a roller. Be prepared to need to do 2, if not 3 coats to get it looking good.

As for the floor, i'd clean with some strong detergent and a power washer if it's very oily. I sealed mine with concrete floor sealant, then grey floor paint. However if I were to do it again, i'd go down the route of buying some nice floor tiles. They work out a bit more expensive but you can take them with you if you move. Here mine:

Can't comment on the roof/asbestos i'm afraid!

I used 1 part PVA glue mixed with 3 parts water. Slap it on.

Followed by two coats of trade matt emulsion, then two coats of trade silk.

The ceiling is plasterboard so got the same treatment.

Does is have joists? I'd consider plasterboard.

Cheers for the input so far folks. Looks like gloss for the roof then! Not really got joists, well concrete ones.Still a bit worried about my "welded" plastic bottles on the floor! Any advice?

Un-weld with heat. Probably best with a blowtorch, but be careful of fumes as could be harmful to well-being.

Same here but after 8 years it needs a new top coat.
