Please recommend a good book for me to read
Discussion
I don't generally read much outside of work related/Internet/car stuff, so can someone recommend a good book for me?
I would quite like something that is possibly based on fact or some of the prediction type books, or conspiracy theory etc etc
Not really into Romance, fiction, Sci-Fi etc
Just looking for some intriguing bedtime reading instead of watching the crap TV that always seems to be on...
Any suggestions?
Cheers Nick
Ps no comic books, paint by numbers, ABC of anything.........

Oh dear, asking for advice on what to read is like asking what`s the best motor to buy, everyone will have a different and very strong opinion, you`ll only know what you like you read once you`ve read a few, once you`ve done that you`ll realise there`s not enough time left to read all that you want to.
For what it`s worth and given what you`ve said I`d read something that has meaning, is timeless, is relatively easy going and concise, if somebody has something they want to say brevity is a virtue.
Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, To Kill a Mocking Bird, Brighton Rock.
Despite what you say about science fiction anything by Douglas Adams is well worth a shout.
I guess that`s enough for now.....I`ll get back to my Readers` Housewives

On the Road - Jack Kerouc
The Beach - Alex Garland
1984 - George Orwell
Captain Corellis Mandolin - Louis de Bernieres
French Revolutions - Tim Moore (v light hearted and funny)
Shantaram - David Gregory Roberts
Some recent reads I have really enjoyed.
Anything by Bill Bryson is always good.

Sounds like you want "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown - except that it's f
king awful. If you must read something by him read "Angels and Demons" - which passes for mindless entertainment at least.
If you want something recently out and actually good read "Black Man" by Richard Morgan. Yes it's sci-fi but it's a thriller and the sci-fi bit isn't confusing.
