Would you be suspicious?
Discussion
I have just got through to a 3rd round of an application to be on a TV show called Dream Island.
It's the chance of a lifetime (or so it says).
The thing is they are asking all contestant hopefuls to pay a "commitment" fee of £29.75! Now I am suspicious. Surely no TV production company would ask such a thing.
The only shows I have ever done are funded by the BBC so this is all a bit new to me.
I checked out the company and they are registered with companies house but does that really mean anything....they registered 30 April 2009.
Any thoughts guys?
PS - Thanks for the sarcasm, I am just wondering if independant TV company's normally do this.
Edited as I can't spell. Thankyou PH pedants for correcting me

Advertising is all over the internet now. I don't like the thought of this fee.
It looks like Advanced Fee Fraud but I am not certain.
I have been involved with playing scammers for so long now I am suspicious of anyone asking me for money up frount.

Would I be suspicious?
Of someone that wants to be in a reality tv show?
Not suspicious, but I would assume they were either long term unstable, or had recently had some sort of trauma and were running away from their life in a doomed attempt to escape into something they see as slightly less empty and painful than the endless torment of the banal hollow sham they have managed to turn their life into with their own selfish actions.
More pathetic than suspicious, really.

Hmmm, POD might know more about this than me but it is so hard to get new TV programming underway, especially with the cutback in advertising for the independent channels. Regardless of whether it is a scam or not, I suspect they are basically charging to cover their costs so far in case they don't get the show commissioned - that way they have lost little. What did you have to do to get to the 3rd stage?

These are the contact details you get once you get through to the second stage. I have raised awareness with Watchdog but TBH I don't expect them to care as money will only have just started changing hands. (They are not getting mine)
As for why did I enter. WTF not, I need a break and even a couple of weeks there would be life changing after the year I have had so far.

Can we get an answer for this?I'm guessing everyone who applied gets through to the third round where they have to pay the fee.

All this is perfectly normal until the fee point. Normally I would be invited for an audition but they are deferring this until the fee is paid. I was immediatly suspicious and have made a lot of enquiries this morning. You guys have been great (even the sarky buggers).
edited as I should have gone to specsavers and bought spell checker specs!
