Ok, nice bit of road, you can see if any dear little chiluns are playing at the roadside, or nearby. There aren't any. There are no junctions, no side roads, no other road users. It is bright daylight. The road is straight. No slippy bits. Why should I stick to 30, *apart* from the legal limit?

Why are you made to feel a criminal if you dare to exceed a 30 or 40 ?

Why is it that just because a sign says something, based on the fact that some sandalista has campaigned to have the 60 limit reduced to a 30 because their god awful satanic spawn sometimes choose to kick a ball into the road & retrieve it without looking... why do I have to suffer the pain of going slowly when their nausiating sprog is safely at school or god knows where?

Where's the logic? but you can bet that Sgt Jobsworth in the hidden talivan won't sympathise !!

As you know mate, as well as I do - its got nothing to do with common sense.

But rather a lot to do with "common currency ..."

Drive at a speed that is safe Carl....not necessarily that which is painted on a sign.
This could equally mean travelling well under the limit if thats what you deem safe.
Who could possibly have a problem with that?

Any government has absolutely no control and/or power over an innocent population, therefore, all governments wishing to exert control and/or power need to create offences for innocent people to commit. The creation of an "offence" known as "Speeding" is a classic illustration of an ARTIFICIAL offence. Even if everyone drove at speeds below the designated speed limits, in all probability, there would still be as many deaths on the roads as there are whilst speeding is targetted as an offence, as it is today.

The present day vigorous enforcement of such an artificial offence by the use of Scameras and Talivans is an example of the abuse of power by the politicians of the present government. The criminalisation of otherwise ordinary innocent good men and women of the UK by the automatated criminalisation process, may well (hopefully) rebound in the faces of Tony B.Liar & Co.

Well said, echoing Ayn Rand, who wrote inAtlas Shrugged, Part II, Chapter 3 "There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers." - Streaky

Oooh, Streaky! Another enthusiast for Ayn Rand! I read Atlas Shrugged years ago (heavy going it is too) and it's great. Do you know of the website, www.aynrand.org?

I had an interesting conversation at church today. A friend who's as straight as the day is long, a kind and gentle country chap, told me he'd been done at 36 on the way into Broadway (Cotswolds) at 6:15 one morning. Down the hill coming into the town. Now he wouldn't dream of speeding, would never speed through Broadway, and doesn't see 36 at 6:15 as speeding. But even he says, "they just want the money".

Surely, surely, when even people like him can see through the scam, it's time for the police to pull out of the Partnerships and say, "not in our name"? Surely the police of all people should be upstanding and principled enough to take such a stand? Or does everyone have a price now? £100k/camera??
