I think I have spotted the cockpit section to a Lightning sat in a farm yard in cornwall, I have done a bit of googling to see what it is and have come up with the number XR747.

I would like to know a bit more about it and who operated it and from where, does anyone here know more about it ?

If i can track the farm owner down i will ask him if i can take a few pictures.

XR747; C/N 95212 ff D. de Villiers 2-4-65 Samlesbury. Converted to F 6; to 23 Squadron, 4-1-68. At Binbrook, 1981. Sold for scrap to TVI Doncaster, then cockpit section sold for restoration to Barry Pover / Ernie Marshall, Lightning Flying Club, c/o Plymouth Executive Aviation, City Airport,Plymouth, Devon.

Looks like it was a project too far.

Many thanks, noticed it today when i went to look at putting a container in the field next door, I quite fancy recovering it and putting it in my yard just as an ornament. I am going to try to track the owner down and see if he will sell.

I used to work for a guy who was paralysed after ejecting out of one of those. Amazing aircraft, though.
