diff noise....
Discussion
Took my car on a bit of a run yesterday (well, newcastle to carlisle) and for the first time since i got the car i switched to air con on (recently re-gassed) and put the windows up and noticed when i turned my head sideways 'noise' from the diff...
It may have always been there as up until then i did most of my driving with the windows down for the noise...ah, the noise...
There are no thunks or bangs even when dabbing the throttle on and off and the noise is not a whine (I've experienced a worn diff before but not in a TVR and not in a cerb) and doesnt seem to change pitch much....its more of a rotational noise i guess, hard to describe...
There is a leak from the main prop shaft but since i recently cahnged to oil and its leaking out i don't think this is contributing...?
May get someone at Hexham HC or another owner to come for a run in it for a second opinion but thought it might help getting some thoughts from you guys...
Thanks in advance.

It could be the rear brake pads. I thought the worst about the diff when I had a 'swishing' sound from the rear of the car when driving. Could hear it reflecting off of walls. Read about it on here that the brake pads can be a bit loose and rub on the discs. Sure enough, I noticed I could stop the noise when pressing the brakes gently!

Thanks for that - easy enough to check - will do this next time i am out in the car. Had the calipers and pads out recently for a refurb....This is more the type of sound rather than the traditional noise i would expect from a worn / damaged diff.

A leak from the main prop shaft? There could be a leak where the prop shaft enters the gearbox or from the input shaft on the diff.
..its definately from the diff - the car passed its MOT last week and when it was up on the jack i was able to have a good look at it.Gassing Station | Cerbera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
