Just wondering if anyone else has this problem, but the ant population around my house seems to have gone bananas. They have found their way into the house a couple of times, but some appropriately placed powder has seen them off, but they are all over the garden, compost bin, veggy patch... I wonder whether the relitively dry spring has been the cause. Anyone else seen this, or tips on seeing them off?

I've had ant patrols in my kitchen over the last week. So far none has made it back to base to report, so hopefully Ant HQ will stop sending them!

We've got dozens of ant nests and colonies on our back garden, they seem to love old stone work and tree roots/systems.

However there have been thousands of the little bds roaming around our kitchen recently. The best solution is to keep the floors clean, wipe/wash/swiffer everyday and vacuum 2x a week all over the house. Combine that with some Home Defence MAX from Home Depot (B&Q for USA) and its been working so far. Its a lot of hassle but the house looks clean and tidy and fewer ants knocking around...

Someone told me to pour parafin around the perimter of your house - I used white spirit and it seemed to help.

When I took areas of the lawn up to make veggie patches, etc, I reckon I found an ants nest in every square meter. Apart from putting mounds in the lawn if I'm lax with the mowing, they don't seem to do any harm.
