Griff boot not opening on switch

As title of post says, boot not opening on switch. (don't need to know how to get into boot via emergency method, sorted with that).

Likely to be - switch, solenoid, wiring loom at join from front to back by left hand seatbelt?

Also, buttons (lights, boot) on swtitch board sunk in a little - push them and they push in (not push latching) - how to resolve please.

Any advice appreciated.

the switches are held onto the back of the dash with a pair of studs which are glued in place, most likely the glue has given up on one of the studs.

I managed to repair mine in situ by removing the radio and going in from the side of the glove box opening.

The boot not opening is most likely to be the solenoid has packed up or the connections to it are corroded, Maplins sell the solenoid for about 7 seven quid

Matt, thanks for that. Problem with switches for lights is as you described - I have had stereo out and right hand vent removed - can touch slot which bolt goes in but can't get hand in to manipulate into place, either bolt in slot or access to nut (wire loom bits round the back).

How did you do this, in such a confined space - I'm sure there is one specific way of doing it. Might have to have dash out....

Its tight, best way I found was to remove the panel entirely and disconnect the wires, I could then use the panel as a template to position the stud with some fresh glue ( JB weld is good) then once set re-attach wiring

Boot solonoid burning out is a very common problem... see other threads on here.

Problem caused by boot lock momentary action switch sticking in and not releasing, the solonoid is not designed to take continuous current thus it burns out quite quickly.

I fitted a very simple timer that pulses the boot solonoid once, even if the switch button sticks in.

Seems to work OK no problems since and button sticks in regularily.

Matt, thanks for advice on this - disconnected other end, attached stud/nut arrangement to switch panel.

Didn't need to disconnect wiring, just shift right air vent and manhandle panel to the left of it's normal location to get stud on and tightened, re-glue & job done.
