Thanks Oldbury Copper

Oldbury is where i work if you wondered....
Would just like to say big thank you to the nice police dude that stopped me the other morning.
Rather exuberently i hurled myself across a amber light (amber going to red
) as i was a little late for work... OK i know it was stupid..
The policeman that stopped me 200yards down the road also thought so. However, rather than treat me like an idiot and talk to me like a let down father figure he simply pointed out i was a tw@t (which i knew) and he wasnt into writing tickets out for minor offences and i should be more careful. Said it veryy politely with a smile but did make me feel silly.
If he does come on here thanks
. This has had a good effect as it really made me think.
Just thought i'd share it with you all. Sometimes being a nice dude has positive effects. A Ticket would have pi55ed me right off....

What he means is he is not into writing tickets for stuff that we can defend ourselves against when they are raking in ALL the revenue they need from the scameras...dangerous driving is far more acceptable than it used to be

What a stupid retort. He probably doesn't agree with cameras either and used good old common sense. A comment like the above would have ensured a nice 3 pointer.
scoobz...what did he actually say?
i was in manchester city centre today, and was pi55ed off at waiting for the endless amount of people crossing so hammered it until about 35mph, from the lights.
behind me was a BiB on a bike (i didnt see him
). later down the road he pulled alongside and he said..
"nice car mate, i'd like one. if i had one i'd probably do what you just did, but theres a time and a place...manchester city centre, 2weeks before christmas isnt the place is it?"
i felt like a right tit.
no ticket and i'll keep it slow around those parts!

my point was the politeness and genorosity of the BiB made me stop and think. I knew i'd done wrong and if he'd ticketted me i wouldnt have batted an eyelid, i would have been pi55ed off but thats all.
The mere fact he was polite, not rude or condescending made a difference. It was a thank you and not a springboard to have a pop at them.
You could have argued, if you were a lesser guy, that it would have been unsafe for you to attempt to stop from where you were when the light went amber, and that continuing was actually the safest course of action.
It really bugs me when people practically do an emergency stop for zebra crossings. I was taught to stop if it was safe to do so, not to jam on the brakes at 30mph at 3 feet from the crossing.
But there you go

You are actually right mike, I was in a wierd mood when i posted that and i did regret it, but i never go back and edit the actual content of my posts unless someone requests it.
I was being an ass, i would rather deal with cops than camera's any day.

Yes, i realise that..see my apology above
I have only ever been stopped twice by the BIB , once i was delivering pizza in my teens in my manager's raced up mark 1 escort, the car sounded like you were doing ninety when you were doing thirty, he got pulled over all the time apparently. I just had a laugh with the cops about how stupid the exhaust system was and that I would NEVER own a car like this etc, and i went on my way.
The only other time was when i decided i liked my current car better without a front license plate and i drove around for five months (as an experiment)before i got pulled over, and i told him it had just fallen off and produced it from the back of the car and that was the end of it, no producer just freindly advice to put it back on quick sharpish like
Sorry, twawling old posts, but this one made me think.
Scoobz had a nasty fright and a good surprise here. As a result, he is going to take more care and drive more considerately. (A cynic may ask how long this will last for, but this isn't the point.) This sounds to me like an excellent road safety move on all behalves. <Pats everyone on the back>.
Now, if Scoobz has been the victim of a camera, or a BiB who WAS into writing out tickets, he would have been aggrieved and hacked off. Would Scoobz have driven better? No, probably not, he would have kept a sharp eye open for blue flashing things and guys in orange vests and muttered rude things while slowing down when he saw them. The rest of the time? Probably not much improvement, just curses as to the nature of being done by "The System". Any resulting improvement in road safety?
(Scoobz, if this isn't the case, I apologise - it's just that this is how I would have been.)
Oli.
