hi folks,

looking at going to my first track day next month at either Abingdon or Hullavington.

Do most of you buy atleast 3rd party track insurance? or hope to use road insurance incase theres a mishap?

cheers, dave.

there is no 3rd party insurance on track.

when you sign on for the track day you will sign a disclaimer saying that you accept responsibility for any damage to your car. therefore you cannot claim from someone else if they hit you.

It is however possible to get fully comp insurance to cover your car. 99% of road insurers will not offer this but a few will. I have just this morning sorted out insurance for a car I am about to buy (a race modified classic) and managed to get fully comp insurance for 4 track days included in the price. that was via "competition car insurance" and I have been very impressed with their service and price.

I think getting seperate insurance for the day will cost you about £100.

I'm with Hagerty (on an E36 M3 Evo) through Performance Direct and they will do it for about £60 per track day. However, the excess goes up to £650 on any claim on the track.

My view is if I scratch it, do something under £650 then I won't claim, and fix it myself. If I DO claim it will surely be MASSIVE. wink and it may not even be my fault! Then the call will be something like :

" errr. please tow my car away and send me a cheque for the agreed value minus £650 thanks. Also I have the right to salvage so can I keep it for £250 and try to sell all the parts off on ebay "
