Driving up to my parents today takes us past a school, bearing in mind it is Saturday I noticed a strange liveried transit van on the kerb So did the queue of traffic in front of me. We all slow to around 25mph I notice a car in front get flashed and commented to the Mrs that he was no way speeding. I pass said van at 24/25 mph (limit I presume 30 as no 20mph signs) I check my rear view mirror to see what it was (a scamera or not) and get blinded by a flash!!!

There was no way I was speeding etc. A car behind me was also flashed and there was no way it was speeding as it was in the same queue as me.

My Dad suggested that he had just set up and was testing the equipment etc.

Anyone help? There was no way I was speeding

Are you 100% sure there wasn't a 20mph limit in force?

Yes, I have driven this route many times if any Essex ph'ers know it it was the B1007 between Billericay and Stock just outside Mayflower school.

On our way back 3 hours later I made sure of speed limit signs etc and passed the same van (now facing the other way) at around 27 mph.

The operator was no doubt trying to add to the "don't speed" paranoia that the establishment are trying to impose on the motoring population.

Pity you didn't stop and walk back doing a Hulk impression.

cheers

MoJo.

Should have done, but was too far past after seeing it flash a car behind me. Anyway there was no safe place to stop and as there was a queue behind me I decided to carry on. I will phone the scamera place on Monday.

That bloody van has been there every other day for the last few weeks. If it's not there it sits at St.Johns school further up towards the high street. What really pisses me off is I've seen the bloke parked 2 wheels up the kerb READING A BLOODY PAPER in his van.

Wen I drove past the first time he was out the van fiddling with the camera unit? (I think). This is what makes me think he had just set up???

A 20 has to be self enforcing. The Bib say they cannot and will not enforce them as speedo's only have to be within 10% in 30-70 range.

Scamera van's usually work to the front. Are you sure there wasn't a car doing 30+ coming the other way ?

The flash also seems strange as I thought they worked on continuous rolling video tape.

I know it's the wrong part of the country but some of the Northamptonshire cameras have been set to the eaxct speed limit or even slightly undeer. Just in case they can't get you for speeding, a good friend of mine got a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt.
