I need a big saloon for work and the Phaeton looks like a lot of car for the money. Is there a decent buyers guide somewhere for these and perhaps a list of options for the car when new?

I have found a car through the VAG network which is a 3.0 litre 4 motion TDI on a 55 plate with 31000 miles. It doesn't have a huge number of options fitted but looks to be a nice car which with haggling I am hoping to buy for £14.5k does this seem reasonable?

Anyone care to share ownership experiences in terms of reliability issues, running costs and dealer experiences?

Cheers

That should humble the guy at work whose just bought a brand new one and must have paid the thick end of £40k for it. I should tell him that its losing approx £30 per day!

Cheers for the advice chaps, I had heard the gearbox is a weak point hence the reason for wanting one from a franchised dealer with a warranty if I buy. The whole "bargin barge" thing is great if you get lucky but when your 7k car lunches its gearbox and the stealer wants the thick end of 5k to fit a new one or the hugely complex electrics decide to do a TVR impression things might start to look a little different...

my mate at work is selling his, i think its a 3.0ltr diesel in blue 2003MY, cream interior. Very nice motor. Only known fault is tyre pressure sensors aren't working ( probs just needs new batteries)

He only wants a bit more than the trade in price. drop me a line if interested and i'll put you in contact with him

Its a very nice car, absolute luxury on the inside but not in yer face on the outside. Very subtle and a huge amount of car for the cash. He was looking at a newer Phaeton, about £27k will buy one with a handful of thousand miles on. Big savings...

the car is in cheshire...

Thanks but as already mentioned if I do buy then I am likely to buy through a main dealer or a private car with remaining manufacturrers warranty.
