Well guys it was in the spring that I purchased my 4L 1992 pre cat Griff. (It had 65,000) and after a lot questions on here and some great help from another member on here who looked at the car for me (mongoose)I bought her. I was waiting for the bang and splutter every day I used it but guess what it never came. I have used it regularly and had the best time ive ever had in a car by a long long way and it still works perfectly every time. I have put a new roof on and the clutch will need replacing soon but other than that I cant fault her. Its not a 5L I know, but its plenty fast enough for me and allows you to enjoy the power and speed without the worry of having that little bit too much power. Its like driving a very over powered go-cart, No ABS no PAS no Traction , excellent! To all those who said "GO ON BUY HER YOU WONT REGRET IT) Thankyou sooooo much, I havent!! How many other 12 year old cars can say that! And it looks brand new!! MARVELOUS!!!!!!

Excellent summary Vestas - as a former 4.0 owner I couldn't have put it better.

Good for you mate, likewise bought a 92 Griff 2 yrs ago, touch wood it has never missed a beat, and everthing still works, infact the interior looks like it was built this year, over the years i have tried many different British sports cars, nothing has come close for reliability and build quality, despite some being originally far more expensive.

I agree - I had 4 Griffs and did over 150,000 miles in them - only came back on a transporter 3 times - 1 40 amp fuse for the fans, 1 alternator and 1 patch of diesel....

In three years Ive had problems with the alarm, rad, diff and fuel pump, not bad for 76,000 miles. Wouldn't change it for the world (a nice Tuscan might sway me though)

A great thread!

I actually used to prefer going out in colder weather with the heaters on and roof down more than in the heat. Its a fantastic refreshing experience without the sweatyness of hot bum and leather Having a 4/5l V8 with you ensures you never get cold :P

I just spent the weekend in the New Forest and drove back on Sunday with the top off all the way to London! Excellent fun and too right about the looks you get- only had a few hours sleep the night before so came back feeling knackered but totally alive!!

Glad to hear you're enjoying your Griff. I've done 6k in my 4ltr since I bought it in May and its never broken down. I'm collecting it from peninsula tomorrow (fingers crossed). Its had a service, a new rad, 6 bushes, and a recon steering rack. I knew the bushes needed doing as they were mentioned as being a bit soft on the comments at the last service just before I bought it. The rad needed replacing as you could see where it had corroded and leaked in the past. So apart from the steering rack the expenses were not unexpected and I managed to haggle that off the price of the car. But most of these things are just general wear and tear on a performance car anyway.

Cant wait to get the roof down in the crisp winter air!

Fools! Fools! You're all tempting fate! I would post on here to say how reliable mine has been, but since I don't want to tempt fate, I won't!

Fate is currently on holiday (with Death - they're drinking IPA in a distant ale-house). So until they get back to the office, get stuck in.
