Just been told by the better half that Ospreys are nesting near mine and she just read it in the news paper...however she said "Opsrey Eagles are nesting near ours" - to which i sniggered and said "make your mind up, are they Ospreys or Eagles?" - but now i have a doubt in my mind....so, what is the correct name for them? it is just Osprey isn't it and im not losing my mind?

From my YOC days I believe it's an Osprey.

Loch Garten.
Used to go as a nipper and was the first place I drove when I got my first car.

Not a "Sea Eagle" - they are the largest British birds and nest in Mull.

I think the Osprey is sometimes called a "Fish Eagle"

Saw a Golden Eagle from about six feet away. Thought it was a fence post next to a cattle grid then the top half spread it's wings and flew off.

Totally different species, Unlike other raptors, the Osprey has four equal toes. The outer one is reversible, enabling the bird to seize its prey with two toes pointing forwards and two pointing backwards, Also
Osprey's are migratory where as Sea Eagles are (now) resident.
Both have been reintroduced to the British Isles after been hunted to extintion late 19th early 20th Century

Can't remember what type, but I had some bird of prey clout me round the back of my head at a falconry centre. It then proceeded to land on my brothers head.
He kept a smile on his face, but I knew he was just being brave as I could see the blood trickling down the sides of his head. hehe

Ospreys feed on fish, so presuming thats where it came from, that and the fact they are a big bird and look "similar" to Eagles.

Note: I put Similar in " " as they dont really look that similar to eagles unless you just have no idea hehe
