Buying a Crash Helmet

I've read various posts on here regarding this subject and I thought I knew the basics about buying a helmet, until I tried to replace my current one.
I want a BS6658 A/FR or Snell 2000 60cm (large) for £250. Simple...No first off I committed the ultimate sin mail order. Ordered a large turned out to be 59cm and too small, replaced it with XL 62cm too big. Give up mail order, go to GP Racewear very limited stock the only helmet that fitted, I didn't like. They didn't even have any Sparco helmets in large (they expect a delivery Wed.)
Can't go to a bike shop because they are to a European standard ECE 22.05 which is not approved by the MSA.
Could buy a bike helmet from the states as most are to snell 2000 even ones for $60 but that's mail order again.
I'm not knocking either company far from it received first class customer service, and I don't expect a shop to carry ever style in ever size. Its the lack of companys stockng approved crash helmets in the UK.
So where does eveyone buy there crash helmets from?

A couple of thoughts:
Bought my helmet from a m/cycle shop - I admit it took several attempts to find a shop selling a m/sport approved helmet - mine was in the "bargains" bin so good value too.
Alternatively, if you find out when the nearest track day is being held by easytrack or bookatrack I'm sure they would bring a selection of helmets for you to try, if you asked.

As far as I can find out BS helmet are independently tested where as the ECE ones are self certified by the manufacture. Also the tests which the helmets are subjected to are differant. I believe that with the BSI helmits a series of test are performed on the same helmet but the ECE uses a fresh helmet for each test.
