£70 for a pin on seamaster bracelet ?
Discussion
Hi, I've just come back home from college and my mum did me a favour and had kindly taken my watch in to a local jewellers as a pin on the strap of my omega seamaster bracelet had fallen out. A simple job I would have thought, however she has just given me the bill and it was £70 !
Surely that can't be right just to replace one of the pins, they told her they had to send it back to Glasgow to be done by Omega, £25 and then a further £45 for the work. Please tell me this can't be right before I can go and have a word with the jewellers tomorrow.

That is truly shocking, why is the shop putting a charge on, they didn't do anything other than post it off. I would certainly query the shop charges. £45 seems bout right from whats been posted on here before about Omega.
Just to rub it in, Seiko uk replaced a lost pin on my monster FOC.

£70 is a lot but you're dealing with a premium product and these attract premium prices.
I would say £45 is a lot for a pin replacement but if Omega did it that doesn't surprise me.
The jewellers wouldn't be out of the box charging £10 for handling the watch, booking it in, packaging it up and letting you know when it was ready. I would then not be surpised if RMSD was £7.50 each way giving you the £25.
Not a cheap escapade but I would think quite easy to explain if you challenge them

I don't rate Omega because of shoddy service I've received in the past.
I'm not claiming Rolex are perfect but I had a bracelet link and clasp replaced totally free of charge well outside warranty.
edit to add: the advice about replacing the pin yourself is correct, don't forget to get the collars if you need them and you dont even need a tool. I just used a plastic cigarette lighter to push them home.

The majority of good watch repair shops carry the correct pins for most brands of watch. Likewise any Omega AD or Indy with a workshop on the premises could do the job in a few minutes for less than a tenner. £70 is a ludicrous figure which is beyond justification.
Edited to say that any minor quibbles with my Rolexes have always been dealt with FOC (whether within the warranty period or not). Omegas are lovely watches, but Rolex after-service is second to none.
