Wondering if anyone has been here and what it was like?
Seems to have good reviews (although never sure how reliable those sites are!)
Menu looks very "gamey" and quite old school
Proclaims itself as London's oldest restaurant

I did try a search but searching for Rules is pretty useless as a search term!

We went a few years back, we were both very impressed and it will be on our hit list again biggrin

Quite traditional inside and the waiters could not be more professional

I went and was not terribly impressed, but I seem to be in a minority whenever I say so. I know several people (who know their food) who proclaim it to be one of their favourite places.

It's great for taking for taking business colleagues/friends from overseas to. Americans love its traditional English style.

I can't imagine why anyone English would want to go there, unless they miss their boarding school days and matron spanking them soundly before bed biggrin

I think it is fairly average... My F-i-L is a real foody and loves his 'game' and he loves the place!

So, we have been a few times. If there is one thing it is good for though, it is yorkshire pud!

They are massive!

If you like meat, veg etc then give it a go, but don't expect too much I would say.

I went there 18 years ago, was very nice and must make a return visit sometime.

Well worth visiting. It sort of 'does what it says on the tin'- i.e. 'old school' food done very well. If you want Michelin stars, Rules probably isn't the place (plenty of competition here). Prices are 'London', but not astronomical.

If you're a fan of game, cooked simply but very well, it's a fantastic place. The ingredients are first class and they know what to do with them. The decor is sort of shabby gentleman's club - comfortable and inoffensive. They have a pretty good cellar and the mark-up isn't too horrible, given the restaurant's reputation and location - very Old World-oriented, unsurprisingly.

I love game so I really like it - if you don't, I think you won't find it at all special.

I love it. But could see why people may not, it does it's own thing.

Best Dover sole I have ever eaten.

Zen.

I like it, it's difficult to find somewhere that does game so well.
