Not too worry! The same thing happened to me. It sounds like you have a fuse gone; do you have any problems with opening the doors? I think it all runs of the same circuit. There is away of getting into the boot but it will never be posted on here, for obvious reasons! It’s very simple if you have mail I will pass it on to you.

Can someone mail me this method, for future reference, so I don't get stuck somewhere if the worst happens

Have you pulled back the carpet on back wall of the boot and checked connections behind rear badge?

After trying the previous answers, if it still does not work, is the badge connecting with the switch face? Try removing the badge and pressing the switch with your finger. If it works then the switch/badge may need adjusting. If not you may have a dead switch (they can get waterin them)

Ditto. My dad's can be a touch temperamental at times, and it would be nice to know.

When you do finally open it, do not forget to close it before driving off - as I hit 70mph on the M27 sunday afternoon, noticed it suddenly went very, very dark. Whole of rear window was full of my boot !! Below 60mph it disappeared but I had to stop on hard shoulder as everyone on the motorway seemed determined to let me know about it. Thankfully, no damage done.

How comes all these people need to know "the secret" all of a sudden? Didn't the seller tell you when you bought the car?

I'm a little concerned about how easily "the secret" is given out, to be honest.

I know what you mean, however I checked both profiles, and they've been members for a while.

Would not be so keen if someone had just joined PH, never know who people are, but if they're active contributors, then don't see a problem,

My local dealer was quite happy to tell me how to re-synch key fobs etc via fax, and didn't care who I was, could've been someone who found them in the street for all he knew, that bothered me.

And to be honest I'd rather someone got into my car via the "method", rather than a brick through the window, in my experience if these theiving scum want something, they'll do anything.
