Hi guys,

Seems to appear most from cold, when I stop at the junction at the end of my road the revs rise to about 2k, hover a bit, and then back down, noticed it a couple of times when changing up gears at low revs, is this an ICV problem?

Thanks smile

Hi, heard of the same problems with the Zetec S

Could be a number of things as well as ICV
TPS
MAF
Dirty fuel filter
Crank sensor = underneath starter motor - often ruled out but can be the cause of problems

It is normal for these engines to fluctuate around 100 rpm, but 2/3 k at junctions is not right.

Clean/ replace those parts and it should be ok.

Hope this helps a litte smile

Mine does it too, i take no notice of it.
Mine does it when i take the car out of gear and start coasting.

My focus also stalls rarely when i push the clutch down, the revs just drop out and stall.

I think it might be an air leak.

There's a lack of engine braking, revs might climb when coasting as the car is rolling, hence more air is forced into the leak? Sound like a good theory?

I take notice of it, because I like my car running right smile

Nah mine is stock under the bonnet.

It's due for an MOT and service so maybe it will creep up then, i'll be sure to mention it to the garage.

My MK1 Focus 1.8 did this from new - Ford always said it was normal and wouldn't do anything about it under warranty. It usually wasn't as bad though once the engine was warmed up. I think my mate had a new inlet manifold fitted under warranty though on a 2.0 for a similar problem.

Mines totally stock, but I'm a new driver so I'm not sure if this is how car engines are supposed to perform? I ride a V4 bike which practically throws you over the bars when you back off the throttle, but still, i'm sure there's supposed to be SOME engine braking?

Ive got the same problem with my Focus but nobody seems to believe theres a problem when I say theres barely any engine braking. Sometimes at junctions the car seems to want to stall while at other times the revs will briefly stick at around 2000rpm with my foot down on the clutch.

So far ive looked for air leaks by spraying wd40 around the engine bay but theres nothing and I have replaced the positive crank case valve but still the problem is there. Also ive checked for fault codes with my bluefin handset but the ECU is clear of faults. The next thing im going to do is clean out the ICV when the gasket finally turns up, il let you know how I get on.
