Located in South Ascot, which I happened upon this morning.
I've no idea why it's actually there. It was not there last week, and I don't think your old faithful Origin or Roadangel, etc will pick this one up.
As an aside - when I went to take these pics this afternoon a 5 series beemer nearly drove into the back of a female teenager driving a Mk II Golf, who slammed on the anchors when she saw the 'camera'.

At least the 'camera' will burn quickly - as it's a few old cornflakes boxes taped together - which incidently you do not notice as you slam on the anchors, etc, etc.
It really does look legit as you approach it (when you can eventually see it [partially hidden behind bushes, trees, etc]).
Of course - once everyone knows it's there - what's the odds on getting a real one put there - which will catch everyone out .... = ££££

Mungo - believe you me - it looks real enough. It's the correct size and colour (as you approach it).
It's not until you actually pass it that you notice it's a blue peter special.
I also can't understand how speeding can be an issue at that specific stretch of the road. You are either approaching a big hotel entrance and major 4-way junction, or have just driven past them - in which case you would still not be at 50 by that point (unless in Tiv, etc, etc ...)

I suppose the fines that will be generated from the camera will be spent on more cornflakes!
Dave,
If you drive from South Ascot towards the A30 (down Devenish Road) and turn right at the Berystede hotel onto Bagshot road (B3020).
It's approximately 100 metres after the entrance to the hotel on the left hand side.
As you're local you might be interested in this: Welcome to Sunninghell

Isn't that illegal?
Isn't that as bad as putting up an illegal speed sign or something?
If thats legal i am going to paint some disabled parking bays out side my house, and maybe put a few 'private road' signs up and start clamping everyone.
I know if i lived near him, i would think of something constructive to do with it, or maybe I would go and paint 'Safety first' signs all over his car so he can pretend it is a talivan...

Its not only illegal but its dangerous..... because it doesnt conform to the required standards of siting (???) and signage, it can be deemed dangerous. At least with the majority of roadside gatso's in this country, you get the warning sign and more often than not, the markings on the road.....
If he doesnt take it down then it can be forceably taken down. Its down right dangerous and morons like this deserve to have their license taken away for behaving so stupidly...... By his actions he is placing other road users at a higher risk of an accident....
...and I bet that moron sleeps at night thinking that he is saving lives! I just hope the BiB throw the book at him.....
And someone burns his fence down...

Well ...
Spoke to a very decent chappie at TVP L area.
Legally speaking the 'scamera' is 100% legit.
Because it is sited in a private garden and is not causing an obstruction, there is nothing they can do.
I asked if there have been any accidents on that stretch recently, and all they have is a biker was knocked off his bike in September and a report of a dangerous driver in october. However, as the road is 2 or 3+ miles long, it's highly unlikely that they occurred at that specific spot.
He suggested my next step would be to contact the local council and request that councils highways and traffic dept investigate.
He did say that and I quote (not verbatim) that should there be a bonfire for example, then it would be an issue. I don't know if he was suggesting or implying something !
I'm not sure I fancy taking on the Council, who are more interested in backhanders and arse scratching than actually responding to the needs of it's parishioners (see www.sunninghell.com for reference).
I suppose what I could do is erect some signs along the lines of: "WARNING - FAKE camera ahead"
Then again - I'd probably get done for it.
