I have a question about starter motors
I have a LS2 crate engine, with T56 (Tuet 2066) gearbox

The problem that I have is that I am unable to fit the three together. Although sold as a package, in reality, I do not know if they 'do' go together.

I can fit the starter motor to engine, and it aligns with flywheel (but without gearbox)
I can fit the gearbox to the engine (but without the starter motor)

From reading this forum I know that some of you have imported this gearbox tuet 2066 (think the topic was about ratios). What car did this come out of, was it a monaro, or another.
When you got it, did it come with the bell housing. Was it different from the monaro. Is the monaro starter motor different from mine.

My problem in shown in the last picture, the surround (around the teeth) fouls the bell housing.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

strange....either a dodgy starter or bellhousing ???

Approximate installed position

metre mark approx where engine/starter interface, aligned thru BH bolt holes.

Perfect pictures, exactly what I wanted, just not the answer I was hoping for ;-)
The measurements that you have given for the starter motor agree with what I have got. So looks like I have a monaro starter motor, and a n other bell housing.

I have now sent an email to Tremec, with the casting numbers which are on bell housing, to hopefully find out what my bell housing been designed for.
For space, I will try to find out what my bell housing is, as a bigger (monaro) bell housing would create problems for me in transmission tunnel and for clutch master cylinder.

The casting numbers on the bell housing are a little unclear

13 88 212 - 907 C (or could be 13 86 212 – 907C)

It has a triangle with ‘ A L ‘ written inside

UNS

A03 600 (or could be A03 800)

The old bellhousing I have here, which is Camaro fitment....but should be the same regardless, as all T56's used on similar vehicles have the same bolt pattern

Tremec of course
13-86-212-905

The UNS A03800 perhaps refers to the material.

Cant see the size changing. If space is tight. The likes ot the Quicktime steel bellhousing does take up less room than the Alu bellhousings.

Im now using the steel bellhousing, hence the ALu one sitting here.

Looks to me like the problem could be the starter is wrong. My TUET2066 fitted perfectly and was the same as the old TUET2100 on my 05 CV8. Sorry don't have any better pictures of my starter but you can see it doesn't have the ribs on the nose.

The bell housing is diffarent though. I still have my TUET2100 bell housing which I want to keep but I can take measurements off it and post more pictures if you need.

Sorry for the delay responding, been thinking about my response.
- I have a chassis rail under the starter, which may be restricting my wriggling space for fitting starter.

- should be removing engine/gearbox over weekend again, so while it is alligned, will split and then try again to refit engine to gearbox with starter attached (with engine and gearbox split I will not need wriggling space to fit starter and this will prove to me that my problem is the chassis rail).
I will also be able to look at my bell housing to see how it compares to the picture provided.

- If it does fit, it means that I could get a different type of starter, with exposed teeth (eg like http://www.ecklerscamaro.com/product.asp?pf_id=718... than mine with the frame around them, which causes the need to wriggle end past/over fly wheel.

Question
is the alignment of a LS1 starter different to a LS2 starter, ie are they interchangeable.

You need the bell housing from a LS1 monaro.

there are a few different types of starter motors, some are mounted hidher than others they all fit the motor but not all bell housings the one you want is from a 98-99 f body (camaro i think) the starter motor is higher in the mounting allowing it to fit.some times you have to releave the bell housing to clear the nose (different makes have different castings). also the solinoids are in different places (the 98-99 one are tucked in more for better clearence,

Looks like I am not the first person.

Ivanj looks like you are bang on the money. After measuring based on the above, looks like I have a LS2 bell housing, but a LS1 starter motor.

I do need the high(er) position so looks like I need to buy a LS2 starter

Stevieturbo, what is the purpose of a steel bell housing, is it a safety feature to protect your ankles against a flywheel shattering?
How does the weight compare (I think your steel one weighs 22Lb but how much does the alloy one weigh).
I presume that it still uses the same clutch slave cylinder.

Thanks for all your help

Pretty much a safety item.

Dont recall the weight...it is of course heavier than the Alu one, but not overly so.

It would also be more compact than the Alu version in some respects.

The bellhousing has little to do with the slave, as it bolts to teh gearbox.
