intermitant power steering fault

have found recently the power steering fails on start up ,and had been working fine .prior to switching off .....drive down road .....1/2 mile ish and it powers back up....?

any ideas

also seems more prone to this after a wash ?

Hello mate. Try to locate the grey relay that is passenger side under the bonnet towards the front these sometimes work a bit loose. Also check the fuse is in properly that gives the 12v signal to the relay . This is locate uder the steering wheel. Mine was the fuse for the heater flap.

Have a look in the battery box too. The gren wire is the +12v feed for the PS pump. Check for breaks and secure fitting etc. The relay mentioned above (may not have its grey plastic cover on it is a Peugeot item IIRC

update

after checking wiring ...it looked like it was a relay problem ....changed relay ...still not working ..rechecked wires ....found intermitant fault on -ve signal wire(yellow+green) where this wire had been spliced(piggybacked) onto main earth wire for power steering relay...

all working now ..just needs some bonnet levitation back onto car..
