Anyone ever cleaned the throttle body of their beemer? Specifically the 330?

Reason I ask is that I had been having some flat-spot/hesitancy issues with our other car, so got me a new throttle body gasket, some cleaner, and cleaned the thing out yesterday - problem solved, the car is now much smoother at acceleration, happier pulling from low revs and the flat spot has gone. All for less than an hours work and around six quid worth of materials.

Which makes me wonder about doing my 330Ci, even though I'm not aware of any real issues in throttle performance. Problem is, I don't know whether it's as straight-forward on a BMW 6-cyl engine as it was on the VAG 1.8 Turbo of the other car.

I'm guessing that this isn't a normal service procedure, so it may never have been done from new, and given the car is at 104k now, I'm wondering whether I might see some benefit in tackling it myself.

Any and all tips appreciated... especially anyone who has done this on a 330i...

The throttle housings dont suffer with any build up of anything. I have removed hundreds of the MDK/EDK's over the years to replace the Crank case breather and they have always been clean, this is because the air coming into the throttle housing is clean...Crankcase breathing takes place after the throttle.

Areas worth checking are;
1,DISA flap (air intake manifold) this unit is on the side of the inlet manifold held on by 2 torx 40 screws and 1 electical conector. the flap tends to break off or the diaphram tears.
2,The intake pipes to the throttle housing. They tend to perish and crack.
3,The Crankcase breather (Cyclone). The diaphram tends to tear...Normally at the same time as the DISA.

Have the fault memory checked to see if anything has been logged with Lambda/Oxygen sensor...This would point to one of the above faults. If any faults have been logged with the throttle then 330 did have an issue with the engine wiring harness where the pins for the thottle connector were incorrect.

Thanks. As I said, no problems to note, but as part of a regular maintenance routine I wondered whether it would be worthwhile...

Sorry, went all technical...No, there is nothing to gain by cleaning it unless it happens to be off
