indead a rare 2+2...but who cares...its a 280..its a FHC (as most people are looking for a convertible as their fun-car)...so before investing time and money in restoration work (which means body off when doing right) its cheaper to buy a very good car for less you have to invest into this basket case...

I'm quite happy with my 280 and...it's a FHC.

What a bargain someone would have got! All reasonably painless jobs on that list, nowt a bit of tlc and a MIG welder won't solve!

Hey...nice to hear from you again. smile

You're certainly the right man to comment on a 2+2 re-build project...and demonstrate how it can be done. hehe

Every time I'm in and around Pock'...which is quite often...I find myself looking out for your Wedge, which I assume you still have ?

- Could always join the massed hairdressing ranks and buy an old MX5 with less power. Must get tiresome flashing practically every other car on the road though. hehe

A 280 FHC for a winter project is not the most sensible thing to do as it will certainly cost more than buying one in good condition. I’ve even seen on here some keen lunatics building garages especially for the project.

Even an old MX5 would be a lot more sensible with all that dependability

I decided after much thought not to buy my son’s K reg MX5 last November and my garage should be finished in about 2 weeks along with the dreaded kitchen extension. So my rebuild is already at £30k

Hello Graham, likewise, I've not been about much on here for a while have I!

I've still got the Wedge, I couldn't sell it after the work I've put in on it. Though it has been in hibernation for a while now in an attempt to save money. It won't be sold, I prefer to mothball it for a while until I have more time for it. New house, new career, new baby, and various other things that consume time & money! It does at least have spacious inside accomodation now though, sat smugly on its 4-post lift smile

I'm up towards Millington, Givendale, etc, if you know up there?

doing the job in a proper way means body off!!

and when the body is already off you will recognize some other areas which need attention (not only on the chassis)...completing the chassis job with a proper powder coating, incl. galvanizing will increase the price.

so finally you will get a better car, without doing ANY restoration work for less money.

ok...if you want to keep the car for 1MOT period only you may repair the outtriggers, cover the rest of the chassis in underseal and thats it....

but thats not what i´ m calling "restoration" work, nor "saving" a car from beeing split in pieces soon.

- Will look you up sometime.
One of my favourite stretches of road is between Pocklington and Driffield, up through Wharter. smile

i bought this car 1 year ago for 1500pound in UK!! now its on sale from the guy i sold the car to. recently he offered it for 3000,-.euro starting bid, no reserve and NOBODY bid.

Full Service History by David Gerald. New Stainless Exhaust, vented discs, Original Interior in nerly new condition. spot on unwelded chassis without any underseal nor waxoyl!! 5 speed box. good paint. new tyres. original unmolested car.

ok...its "only" a FHC and not a 2+2...but who cares, especially in this good condition.

But where's the fun in that? Half the fun with a Wedge (for many people, not saying all by any means smile ) is tinkering and fixing it!

The original link was an absolutely prime candidate for a restoration project, you couldn't get much cheaper, whilst still having all (ok, most) bits attached. They're not difficult to work on, body comes off quite easily, and all jobs are manageable with a bit of time, thought and a good sized hammer.

again: why should i buy a basket case for 450 when i could get i very, very good car for 1500?

you never bring this basket case in the condition of the other one in investing 1000 pound. especially when you also calculate the time and work which is needed. the green one was pay and enjoy immediately!!

and not to forget all the other problems on the blue car:

The engine requires a new water pump and a radiator hose.

The gearbox linkage needs re-bushing.....

The chassis is rusty.

The bodywork is in sound condition with no major crazing but it does have a number of scratchs and marks.

The driver's seat is in need of attention.

The headlamp raising mechanism is missing completely (!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Some of the electrics work but need going through.

I do not have the V5, only the old-style log book which is still valid to obtain a V5.

normally you should get this car for free!!

You seem to be confused as to what a basket case is, indeed a very pessimistic view! Yes, you'd have to pay someone a lot more than £1000 to fix all those things, but £500 absolute tops in parts in that list, rest is just time.

If you know a source of free Wedges, please do let us all know rolleyes
