I'm thinking of having one of these Mark Adams chips fitted, in the hope of getting a little more efficiency and power from my motor, which does already run perfectly...but never powerful enough of course. biggrin

Has anyone had experience of these chips ?

What about other bolt-on mods that have produced REAL measurable gains for any
fellow Wedgers ?

Your views would be appreciated. smile

Graham , its got to be a hotwire for his system to work , he puts a different chip in the ecu and a bigger afm , and a very shiny fuel regulator , sets the whole thing up to give the correct running readouts . He comes to you and he is from Cheshire so not far .No rolling road needed as you drive it on the road with cables connected to engine systems and exhaust pipe and he sits in passenger seat with laptop !

If it's Hotwire you should see some difference, especially if you improve the breathing the same time, (bored out inlet manifold, trumpets, bigger plenum.) If it's a flapper you can get hold of a Jag AFM & adjustable ECU (which my old 450 had). This fools the ECU in to thinking the engine is cooler than it really is so it delivers more petrol. Much simpler/cruder system.(Correct me if I'm wrong there folks) It still has to be set up on the rollers though, to get the correct ratio. biggrin

Thanks guys (just got back from roaring around the countryside like a teenagerhehe).

My car IS a hotwire...95 Chim engine with matching ECU adjusted for 'no cats'.

218 cam.

I've just had an adjustable fuel reg fitted (NOT rising rate), which enabled the rolling road guy to alter fuelling slightly.

I seem to have read conflicting reports on on the torqueV8 system. I suppose as these cars are so varied in their engine tunes and build spec as 'STANDARD'... if there is such a thing, that it has to be a shot in the dark.

I've been thinking about that system though...not much dearer than a Mark Adams chip and a rolling road session. scratchchin

Also I reckon that if I'm going to start taking apart a reliable and punchy motor, then it's going to have to be worthwhile. I'm not looking for an extra mile per gallon another measly 5 bhp, or smoother running. She's already economical enough, and smooth running.

Maybe a sportier cam + all the breathing improvements ?
Can't afford thousands just at the moment, otherwise I'd go straight to supercharger without hesitation. evil

Hi Combine. smile

So can you feel any more umph out on the road ?

I'd like to see some R/R readouts from this guy...preferably for every car.

Yes , the seac is much better all round . Bhp figures can be misleading as far as a car being faster etc , doubtful wether another 10- 20 bhp on its own will make much difference . Have a word with Eann ( torquev8 ) and ask him , it doesn't cost to ask him questions .

If you tempted to go for a supercharger at some point, they you would be better spending the money on a Emerald ECU, and not the chip upgrade, as the chip will be need changing again with a S/C but the Emerald can be reprogrammed. also you can have 3 maps on the Emerald, so have a MOT map.

Good point.

Probably better just to go to supercharger.
Engine has done less than 45,000 and the cam and clutch less than 10,000 miles, so hopefully up to a bit of boosting.

You know it makes sense! Got the wedge in for service at the mo and the loan car is a Shaab 2.3 Tuuuuurbo. It's really wierd, hard to take when the turbo spools in. THen the front is all over the place.

Supercharging is definitely the way to go - smoooth.
