French car show and introduction

Was chatting to some of your members earlier at french car show and thought I'd post up and say hello

I'm from Northamptonshire and own a Peugeot 309 XE 1.1ltr 1988, which I bought for £100 pounds three years ago with 49bhp.

Mods so far are...

Engine...

- weber 40 carb conversion
-custom manifold
-catch tank
-electric fuel pump

Interior...

-gti bucket seats
-willans 3 point supersport harnesses
-dvd player
-phase two steering wheel

Exterior...

-full rattle can respray in satin black (from regency red)
-tinted side repeaters
- gti alloys
-de-badged
-square cut out style grill
-random vinyls

Brakes...

-gti front brake conversion (vented disks)
-gti master cylinder

Suspension...

-AVO coilovers

'Gertrude' the 309 was put on the rolling road to today and managed to get 73bhp, so very happy with these results!

I'll get some pictures posted up as soon as I can.

The red was quite scratched and dented when polished It gets noticed a lot more now that's for sure

Thanks for your opinions though Got so much more to do to it this year (hopefully)

I thought about bright green wheels but the interior is still red and I don't think it would look right, unless I sprayed that too, would rather spend my time and money on the engine bay though tbh.

Went for a matt colour because I liked it

Not wanting to piss on your chips... but you seem to have spent an awful lot of money on an absolute shed... (No doubting you've improved it of course). But would it not have been better to save the money and buy something newer when insurance / whatever allowed?

Yes but the world would be a lot duller place if everyone took that attitude. I think it looks pretty cool to be honest and is different to every other fiesta/saxo/clio that younger people seem to get, good on you!

I've spent money on every single car I have had so far in terms of modifying them and I have never made it back but I am still glad I did it!

As ugly as they are, I do like 309s.

I thought the red looked good, but so does the black.

I do wonder whether it's really worth your while throwing money at the 1.1 lump which is in it at the moment, obviously it's your choice but there's no escaping the fact that it will never set the world alight with its performance.

You've already done a lot of suspension/brake mods and the 309 does have a nicely balanced chassis which can cope with a lot more power. There is a chap called Sandy Brown, well known in Peugeot tuning circles, whose 309 Trio has had a 2.2 litre Accord Type-R engine on Jenveys transplanted into it. It's a total sleeper (apart from the noise) and may provide you with some inspiration for next steps!

Ah thanks for that advice!

I did consider a bigger engine but I just love to be different, at the moment it turns heads because yes, the idea of a 40 on a 1.1 does seem crazy, but that's why I love it! It's cheap as chips to insure and when you have other things to save for every little helps

My aim is to get it to 100bhp, just for the pure hell of it. It's so satisfying watching my friends taking out loans and spending thousands of pounds on 'newer' and supposedly quicker cars, when with a few hundred spent here I can keep up with them in a 1.1

I've had a 309 GTi and it was a great car. the fact that this one is err different makes the concept of it quite a hoot, the fact that it has (I assume) been done on a limited budget is credit to the OP

FWIW as far as the wheels are concerned, the deep red looks pretty good. Consider also the original silver ala the top picture or even as a nod to the Brooklands special deep deep black

Fair play to you. Great comment. Its not about saving for something better all the time, its great to be happy with something you can tinker with and make your own, especially considering what you paid for it!

Great little project and it certainly looks miles better than it did when you bought it!

I quite like that, I am surprised I haven't spotted it around town as I am always on the lookout for 205's/309's, I have barely seen any lately!
