This afternoon I went out for a drive to make the most of the nice weather as most here tend to do. After being stuck behind several doddery cars that kept slowing down then speeding up for no apparent reason I saw the opportunity to overtake. The road ahead was clear, the cars I overtook were doing less than 30mph. Whilst I was overtaking the first car, the fker decided to without warning try and overtake also, totally oblivious to me being next to him! I blew my horn and the idiot realised what he was doing, gave me a hand gesture and moved back in. By this time I had another fool coming towards me flashing his lights at me, even though I had plenty of room to move back into my lane.
This incident really pissed me off, so on seeing the car that had earlier tried to plough into me and then give me the hand gesture pull into a garage, I did a quick U-turn and had a few heated words. Mainly you fking tt etc etc.
The reason I am posting this for your amusement is that I was at the time testing out a new bullet cam and captured the whole thing on video. The sound quality is not good at all, which is probably a good thing. But what do you think??

I suspect if you video'd your confrontation with the guy you might be opening yourself up all sorts of issues.

The guy made a dopey error, however,I do hope you saw it coming and the possibility of it happening was in your mind as you planned your overtake. You shouldn't have retaliated though, that's where it all starts....

A. Don't understand if the car who flashed you, going the other way, was pulled up in the garage when you made the u turn? or did I miss something. Which was down the road you was driving down, and turned right into?

B. Not sure about the hand gesture, but he might have flashed you to make sure you had seen him, I for one believe in "See and be seen",

I allways plan for different possibilities, yes the guy did make a dopey error, or did he do it out of spite as he didnt want me to overtake him? I indicated for quite some time before my overtake. But then again hardly anyone seems to indicate these days so he probably didnt understand what a flashing orange light meant!
I would have left it at that and just continued with my journey had it not been for the hand gesture. I am not an aggresive or violent person, I at no point would have lumped him one. I was just furious at the fact that this guy could play silly buggers like that and think the whole thing was amusing. I wanted him to understand that, that type of behaviour is not funny. Even when I spoke to him, he didnt have the balls to apologise or even speak to me, he mummbled somthing under his breath. At that point I thaught it was best to go.

It was the red car I overtook that pulled up.

The car that flashed me was not even visible when I overtook, he was moving very quickly, rather than flash me, if he was that concerned, why didnt he slow down a bit. Anyway there was a massive gap.

I should point out that for some reason the video seems to be running a touch faster than it should, making the cars seem a bit faster. I was driving at a very sensible speed sticking to the 40 speed limit.

Yea i had similar incident on saturday, coming back from portsmouth to bournemouth a 3 laner was soon merging into a 2 lane so was looking for a gap to get into on my left being in the furthest of the 3 lanes..

saw a massive 20 foot gap so slowly got in position to pull into the left, got parralell, indicated started to pull in and the tt in that lane sped up as fast as he could to close the gap down so that i had no chance of getting in, but i was already a quater in so had to swerve back out.. gave him a right mouthful and some hand gestures!!! If i didnt keep checking my wingmirror he would have properly side swiped me! COCK!

Now I understand, I have noticed myself a lot that drivers don't seem to check mirrors much, thanks for the clarification.

Perhaps he saw your indicator and then forgot about it?

We have to do advanced driver training with (mainly) ex-Police trainers and they always tell us to flash headlights just as you pull out to overtake.

I do think it seems aggressive, and there's always a chance someone could mistake the flash for permission for them to pull out, but it does seem to work - I think people see th flash, think "what was that?" and by the time they've collected their thoughts you're past them.

The good weather seems to bring out the tawtty drivers for sure. I was heading down to the WestMeon hut yesterday, I got stuck behind 3 cars that resolutely refused to overtake the horsebox and trailer in front of them on the long straight between the George and Falcon and the hut. So I thought fk you lot and indicated, moved out and floored it. the silly little old fker in the corsa just behind the horsebox suddenly moved out without looking or indicating as i got alongside. needless to say there was a lot of action invoving nescafe and flashing of lights.

A different slant on being over taken, behind a car in L2 of a dual carriageway, 40 mph. Bus up ahead in L1, hense in L2. Speed changes to NSL, here we go I thought, no, bugger still doing 40, bus pulling away, waited, flashed.

Nothing....... waited, flashed, Nothing.........probably a good half a mile into the NSL by now, and nothing in L1, bus was away by now.

Slowly moved into L1, made sure he was content in doing 40 in L2, floored it, as I passed him, lots of flashing lights, and guess what? he moves into L1 behind me. As I pulled away, he still seemed content in doint 40.

I know as well as we all do, thout shouldn't undertake, but what can you do?

Indeed, this happens regularly to me so I expect it, the oncoming flash is fairly standard too.

The point of overtaking is to make progress, by stopping and ranting (which in itself just makes you look like the aggressor) you defeat the object of overtaking.

Get over it, it happens,

P.S. Be careful what your camera pics up, your speed can be jcalculated by the white lines on the road....

You just dont get it do you. I was in no rush at all, but I find it tedious to be stuck behind tts that dont seem capable to drive at a consistant speed. The cars in front were driving at between 20mph and 30mph, for no reason I could see they kept slowing down then speeding up. I made a perfectly legal overtake, I didnt floor it, I overtook gently. By this guy doing what he did, he wound me up, he could have caused a serious accident.
As for the comment about the police picking up my speed, if they could be bothered, and also if they managed to set the video to a realist speed (Like I said earlier the software I used seems to have speeded things up slightly) the police would see that I was probably doing 40mph tops. The limit was 40.

Oh and my rant consisted of somthing along the lines of: "What the hell were you trying to do back there? Do you realise you could have caused an accident?" I got mummbles in return, so I said "fking tt" got in my car and drove off" Hardly that aggresive.

Undertaking is good. It needs to be done sometimes. Its often the norm that people pull left once the manouver is complete as they finally 'twig'.

Ideally there is an escape route - lane 1 or an empty hard shoulder - but if not, time it well, correct gear etc and you are round them and on your merry way before they have time to flick the indicator to the left.

2 flashes (no reaction?) and im round is my motto. smile

Whats not to get? , you can't control your temper so you stalk and verbally abuse other motorists when they annoy you.

Weird. confused

Try to keep calm in future, if you are that aggreived by the other motorist then report them and use your video as evidence.

Then we will see whether or not the CPS will start by calculating your speed first, especially if you are in any sort of sports/fast car, anyway I'm sure you were within the speed limits so nothing to worry about huh.

Now, would you like some valium?
