Just listing some special edition CD's on eBay, since they hiked their prices i haven't bothered selling stuff but as its the huge market i thought i'd stick em on.

Fine i thought but no, you cant list CD's with a postal charge higher than 2 quid!! Doesn't matter that this particular one is a big boxed triple CD that weighs more than twice a normal CD does so i lose more money on the fact that i have to send it recorded/special delivery otherwise you aint covered by the Paypal chargeback protection.

Bunch of theiving tossers!!!!!!!

I sold something and Paypal won't let me have my money for 21 days, who are they to hold my funds? tts, if they do this to everyone the interest they make on our cash must be huge.

Seeing as you can post 500g for under £2 you must either have really big box sets or you're one of those irritating e-bayers who think it's ok to make a profit from the postage element of a sale.

Just increase the start price to cover the additional postage.

Recorded delivery will cost him at least £2.60 and Special will be £5.20.
That doesn't include his packaging costs...or didn't you read all of the OP?

Ebay does seem to be getting worse and worse for sellers. I would not be surprised if people start looking elsewhere for stuff.

yes And the way things are these days (in terms of seller protection - or lack of), you HAVE to send recorded at a minimum otherwise you run the very real risk of getting ripped off.

Just select 'other courier' without putting a value, then in the listing write "postage will be £XYZ".

This is what I did when I had one of these, the item was exceptionally heavy and cost far more to post than their default values.

I'me getting bloody sick of these. I don't mind a few pence on top for unforseen expenses, or a bit to help share the pain of the extortionate paypal fees, but I'm starting to notice a lot of blatant extortion on the postage fees. (Not suggesting the OP is doing this)

Saw a couple of items at the weekend, got quite excited as they were at 99p with no bids and only a few hours to go. Then noticed the £7.50 postage cost for a very small, light item.......

Twat!!!!!

That's done so that they come higher in price-filtered results.

You don't actually think you're going to get a £8.50 value item for 99p do you?

No. None of the ones I saw was an £8.50 value item. £5 value at best, hence I was annoyed with the extortionate postage pricing.

(I may not be the brightest candle in the chapel, but I'm not totally stupid!! I would quite happily pay the massive postage if I thought the overall price was still good!)

The items didn't sell, as it happens, and quite right too. I guess they hope that people will bid without checking the postage first!? I stand by my 'Twat!!!' comment!

Who cares? A seller isn't paying the fees is he...
Just look at the total price with the postage and work out from there what you are willing to pay for the items. Very simple really. It doesn't matter if it is £2 with £8 postage or £8 with £2 postage. It is still going to cost you £10 isn't it...

I care. tongue out Buyers can work round it, as you rightly point out, and just factor it in to what they're willing to bid/pay. But it's still wrong and a PITA. I wouldn't be very pleased if I followed up a deal online for a flatscreen TV for a cheap price, for example, only to find out that delivery is £500!

Thanks for the maths lesson BTW. rolleyes

What it's actually worth is irrelevant. Who actually buys items without factoring in the postage cost? Just work out the total cost and compare that, it's not difficult.

As I said it's done simply to appear higher on search results sorted by price, it's not a scam. Anyone 'scammed' by this is an idiot.
