Pirbright Bends
Discussion
I'm not sure of the reasons/details but i'm pretty sure its been removed some time ago. Funnily enough, i've seen a few accidents on that stretch over the last couple of months.
I'm not sure how the guy managed to do that in that position though. Normally it happens on the actual bends further towards the Kings Head. Perhaps he just seriously mis-judged his entry speed and carried on going?
Another one was a silver Boxster S that hit the fence on the straight stretch opposite the large field. Ended up being wedged between 2 trees.

My mate lives in those cottages in the 40 MPH section, its like a bloody racetrack along there some days. I've lost count the number of RTC's I've attended along the length of the bends, in all weird and wonderful positions!! - If anyone is out for a hoon along that way can they keep it slow passed the houses-cheers.

I used to really enjoy going down the Pirbright bends when i went out to give my Exige or Focus RS a run (as they are local roads to me) but i avoid them like the plague now
- last 2 times i went round them, the 1st time i nearly got hit by some young inexperienced driver in a 1.1 saxo who was driving on my side of the road as i came round a bend & about a month back i saw a bloke in a mitsubishi fto jump a red light on the narrow bridge (potters hotel one) & nearly cause a nasty accident.

I am too local to this area and know exactly what you mean about that row on houses with parked cars on the road - I still do the Mytchett to Pirbright daily commute to work in Guildford on a daily basis. Not a fortnight goes by when I don't see at least 1 car in a ditch. The amount of flowers at sites by the site of the road is remarkable.
The thing that gets me though is that all the " > > > " barriers that warn about corners are never replaced when bent out of shape and the white lines are non existant in places where they have worn off, and in the rain makes them even worse. There used to be those plastic barriers at the edge of the road with reflectors on which at night and heavy rain would undoubtedly make it easier for people less familliar with the road to see where the bends where and the degree of the bends. It seems the council haven't spent a penny on re doing the road markings or sighnage at all in the last 5 years which seems crazy as there have been many fatalities.
If I was the council i'd have the sharpest and most dangerous bends lit up like a christmas tree with signs to warn about the twisty nature of the road and at least repaint the white lines every year.

I'm all for decent signage, but please don't over do it - it'll end up like the red road with idiots slamming on the anchors when the sign lights up at anything over 40mph! People have to think for themselves and not drive-by-numbers.
I don't know the Mytchett end of the twisties, only from Deepcut towards Pirbright, but I don't remember the signage being particularly bad?

I agree, that sign on red road is way OTT and quite comical to watch everyone ahead who is 38mph slam the brakes on . I just would have thought that with pirbright bends claiming so many cars / lives, they would at least maintain the white lines and the occasional sharp bend sign etc rather than just let the reflective signs and lines wear away.

I'm assuming that everyone who drives that way has noticed that because of that one sign for that s-bend, every idiot now drives the duration of the red road at 40mph as well now. People definitely need to stop relying on these signs quite so much and think about when their speed is applicable.I don't know the Mytchett end of the twisties, only from Deepcut towards Pirbright, but I don't remember the signage being particularly bad?
I didnt realise so many PHers used the roads i do on a regular basis. I should really make myself known in the SAS circles. Would be great to come out for some hoons with some of you who are local.

Ditto! I have browsed here for over a year and just signed up.I didnt realise so many PHers used the roads i do on a regular basis. I should really make myself known in the SAS circles. Would be great to come out for some hoons with some of you who are local.
Ah the Pirbright Bends... I love that stretch. I'm also local (Woking) and the run to the Sovereigns in North Camp takes me through that bit. I do enjoy giving it one or two beans, but I know it isn't a) a private road or b) a racetrack. You don't need to go silly speeds through there for it to put a smile on your face. Besides, even if I HAD any confidence in my driving ability, I can only rely on my own skill and not the skill, forethought, or common sense of others. There's a time and a place...

The Bends are on my back doorstep, and useful for scubbing in tyres on the bike
Sounds like we need to organise drinks in Woking (or just out of town, where there are actually nice pubs) then!
Sounds like a good idea. I didn't realise until i started reading here more often, just how many PHers are in the same area.

Talking of the Bends, i'll be the first to suggest a drink at the White Hart on Pirbright green, considering its in an ideal location to the Bends, and also a pretty nice pub for some grub and a decent pint of real ale.
Perhaps i should set up a post for a local Bends related meet? Would be good to go out for a drink with some local PHers as i haven't been to a local meet yet, despite me being a PH member for the last year or so.
