I'm looking for a few cases of 2007 wine to put aside for my daughter's 18th. Which will be in 2025...

Anyway, I've got some Aussie stuff and I'm after non-Aus or NZ recommendations, red or white. All suggestions appreciated. Cellar arrangements are over here - I'm lucky enough to have access to the foundations of my house, which is cool all year round and home only to a few spiders, cockies and rats.

Cheers

2007 port was well regarded, I read - that's probably the obvious choice to keep for that length of time.

I agree that the 2007 vintage ports are getting some very good reviews

The 2007s from the Southern Rhone were also extremely good - some commentators said it was the best vintage there since 1947. The better Chateauneufs de Pape (Clos des Papes and Beaucastel are two that spring to mind) should easily keep for 18 years if stored properly and might be more palatable to 18 year olds than vintage port!

Any decent wine merchant should be able to point you in the right direction...

I think 2007 Rhone was OK?
Agreed. Ask Bebs.

There's a good idea - I have a cave in France and 2 young children (and now an excuse to fill the racks in the cave!)

Hmm, like the sound of some port - though it can be a bitof a bind finding proper stuff over here. Not impossible, just hard work. And some Chateauneuf DP to go with it would be marvellous.

Oh, and lets be honest here, its not really going to be drunk by 18 year olds... wink

hehe I know, but it's important to keep up the pretence until you've purchased the wine at least! I occasionally wander the cellar looking at the '05s I laid down for my son, and think "Nah, I'll just buy him and his friends £1,000 worth of alcopops instead!"

Sorry guys - just spotted this thread now.
Agree, 07 Vintage Port or CNDP 07. Stay away from 07 Bordeaux.

Thanks Bebs - any whites I might consider? Hunter Valley Semillon seems to be the fave over here for lasting - but 2007 doesn't yet seem to be making the grade. South Aus Riesling is the other usual suspect, but would appreciate any hints or tips from that side of the planet.

Cheers
