Good stuff that's not worth much - what to do with it?
Discussion
Due to a recent decision to redesign parts of our house, and upgrade some of our 'entertainment' kit, we've got some perfectly good items to get rid of that are not of very much value. Could take them to the tip, and may end up doing just that, but it seems a shame to throw away servicable items.
Two examples:
CRT TV. Good quality picture and sound, pretty much as new, but outdated now. Would a hostel, or similar, want it?
Double bed, wood frame, mattress hardly used. All good stuff, but the sort of thing that can be picked up for relatively few £££ at Argos or similar. Worth a punt in the local advertiser for a few pounds? Hostel or similar as above? Or just a tip job?

Ask family and friends if anyone is moving out, off to Uni etc. I gained a bed, TV, fridge etc from family and friends when I moved away last year, all for free as they were being replaced. Now that I've moved back home again, I have done exactly the same thing - given them all away to friends and family that want/need them.
Easier than dealing with the potential stress of freecycle (from personal experience).

Andy,
Depending on where in the South West you are, and how desperate you are to get rid, I'll happily take the bed off your hands, I'm in the process of moving into a new house and could use it in my spare room.
I'm in Melksham, but out of the UK until the end of the month.
I'm in Corsham so that could maybe work out. Can you collect it?Depending on where in the South West you are, and how desperate you are to get rid, I'll happily take the bed off your hands, I'm in the process of moving into a new house and could use it in my spare room.

Might stick it up for a few quid on the local shop noticeboard, but if there's not much interest before you're back and ready.......
I'm not sure anyone would take a mattress along with the bed though.
I certainly wouldn't
eta - talking of which, I've still got a 42" Panny Plasma (non-HD) taking up space behind my mum's sofa down south. Can't shift it even for 150 quid :/
I certainly wouldn't

I know what you mean, but this 'un has only been a spare bed, and only in the 2nd spare room at that. We have plenty of people to stay, but usually only one spare-room-worth at a time, so I reckon it's been used about ten times at most, and is completely 'as new' and 'stain free'.I certainly wouldn't
