n New Head, but now smoking from passenger exhaust????

Hi all,

very recently purchased a tuscan which had in January had a new head fitted at Austec at a cost of about £3k.

On living with it for about a week I have noticed that on start up it throws a lot of smoke out of the Passenger exhaust, also if idling in traffic and pulling away it also sends a fair bit out then too.

I though buying a car that had had head work done would minimise my chances of big bills, but not looking so.

Has anyone got any suggestions on what this may be, it does seem to be burning a bit of oil, but only having had it for a short space of time, i'm not sure how much.

Its going in to Austec next week to have the tappets done following the head work. Anyone got any suggestions at all??

if they did the work in January, I would hope it's still under warranty?

Sounds more like a ring issue than the head. How many miles has it done? May be an idea to get a compression check done.

It has done about 26k miles and had a rebuild after 12k also

I thought rings would show themselves more when under load?

Sounds a bit like Dastons gremlins, i would say leaky Valve guides.

Sounds a bit worse than mine, mine only smokes on a cold start up havent seen any smoke when pulling away.

I am off to Dulfords next week for them to cast an eye over it so will let you know the out come. I have been told that a puff on start up is not too bad however if its doing it when under load then it could be piston ring.

The passengers´ side exhaust (left) is cylinders 4,5 and 6 (the hard to get to... especially N°6).
I am not an expert, but could think of worn valve guides or piston rings, especially if it does not stop at warmed up temperatures. Hope for you that I am wrong...
